Marian Elizabeth Menees

Sep 22nd, 1951 - Sep 15th, 2020

Biography:

Marian Elizabeth Menees (68), of Little Rock, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, on September 15, 2020. Marian, a Little Rock native, was born to the late Walter and Betty Isgrig on September 22, 1951. Marian obtained her degree in elementary education from the University of Arkansas. During her years in Fayetteville Marian met and fell in love with her husband, Martin, of over 45 years, and in 1980 they welcomed their daughter Kate.

In addition to being a devoted mother and wife, Marian impacted the lives of many young people during her 35 years as a sixth-grade history teacher at The Cathedral School and Episcopal Collegiate School.   Her students will fondly remember her collection of troll dolls, the 6th grade trip to St. Louis, and her love for her curtain angels at the annual Christmas Pageant. Marian will be dearly missed by her family and the many students whose lives she touched. She is survived by her husband Martin of Little Rock, her daughter Kate of Mobile, Alabama, her sister Lynn Isgrig , and nephew William Topp, both of Little Rock.

A private family service will be held on Friday at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church where her remains will be interred, with arrangements made through Ruebel Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Arkansas Hospice.

Mrs. Menees was my 4th grade teacher at St. Paul's in Kansas City. My parents fell in love with her creativity, kindness, and beautiful energy as fast as I did... along with all of my classmates who continue to talk about what a wonderful influence she was. I hope your family is finding strength in such happy memories, even as you mourn her loss.
Much love from Switzerland,

I am certainly one of the students that Miss Isgrig greatly impacted. She was my 6th grade teacher in ‘74-‘75. That was a hard time for me and I will never forget her patience with me and her genuine concern and kindness. As I get older , I pause more to realize how grateful I am to have had people like her in my life. Andrew Meadors.

I’m so sorry to hear about Marian. What fond memories we have of Mrs. Menees! Marian was a gifted educator who not only taught but reached her students in many wonderful ways. I appreciated Marian as a mom whose kids spent time in her classroom then later as a co worker and friend. I know she will be missed. Praying for God’s special comfort in the coming days.

My thought go out to Marians husband and family. Marian and I were classmates for several years. We had a lot of discussions about good music of the 60’s. I’m sure she is still listening now.

She will be so missed!!! Mrs. Menees was such a gifted teacher. She made us all feel like we were her ‘favorites’. My love of reading I believe came from her encouragement during such a pivotal 6th grade year. She has impacted multiple generations through my brother Ted, myself and the next generation of my nephews, Ted and Worth. I am so grateful for her life and impact. Praying for Mr. Menees, Kate, and the extended family.

Martin and Kate,
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Marian. We always had a great time together so very many moons ago while we were both at the Cathedral. We would always kid around about the infamous 6th Grade Trip and those Curtain Angels - she many times threatened to sign me up as a trip chaperone and/or cast me as an angel in a Pageant!

I know that you realize what an incredible effect she had on her many 6th grade students - she shared her love of knowledge and her friendship, faith and love of one another with so many children. I'm sure those gifts have stayed with them throughout the years. She will be missed by so many. May she rest sweetly in the arms of the Most High.

I wish you strength, courage and deep peace as you begin your own new life chapters without your beloved wife and mother.

I am so sorry to hear this. Mrs. Menees started at the Cathedral School my 6th grade year in 1984-85.....in fact I think she replaced another teacher after school had already started. She was one of my favorite teachers. I am the principal at Pulaski Academy now. I tell my teachers all the time to remember back to their favorite teachers and try to emulate what they did that made them so special. Mrs. Menees is always my example. I am so sorry for your loss.
