Biography: The Rev. David Harrison Dyer was born in Munich, Germany on July 22, 1948. His dad Vernard C. Dyer, was an Army Master Sergeant and his mother, Maxine Laflin Dyer, was a nurse. David lived the life of an Army brat, moving about to a number of places in the US. He attended King College in Tennessee and then went to Union Seminary in Richmond, VA, where he earned his Doctor of Ministry.

He was a minister in Presbyterian churches in Richmond and Houston before coming to Little Rock to serve at Westover Hills. He has since served as a minister or interim minister at several churches in Arkansas. He was serving at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Little Rock at the time of his death. He was a wise and faithful leader who brought the Word of God to many and assured us that the Lord holds us dear.

David went from this world peacefully at home on August 29, 2020. He leaves many people to remember him with love. Among them: Marian, his wife; his two daughters Jennifer (Marc) and Lucy (Mike). He has two grandchildren, Joseph and Miranda, whom he loved beyond measure. He was dear Uncle David to his sister’s children, Suzie, Mike, and Julie; and his wife’s nieces and nephews.

David was extremely generous with his time, knowledge, and money. He counseled and mentored many, and always had time to listen. Recently, he taught the Friday morning Bible Class at Pulaski Heights Presbyterian, and was a regular lecturer at Life Quest. He brought excitement and a great deal of humor to his lessons. He was a font of knowledge, both useful and useless.
David loved his pets. He had faithful dogs that spent the days at his side and slept with him at night. He was a friend to the stray and unloved. This can be said of animals and people.

It is difficult to sum up this man’s life in a few words. Each of us has a unique memory of him and what he meant to us. He is home now with his beloved parents, sister and brother-in-law; they are sitting around a kitchen table, laughing.
For those who wish to make memorials to him, please send them to either Pulaski county Animal Shelter or the Presbyterian Disaster Relief, or to a charity of your choosing. He would support any form of giving.  Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home, RuebelFuneralHome.com

Marian, Jenny and Lucy,
Dave was very special to us. Diane was on the committee that brought you to Houston. Thank you Marian for sharing your husband with Oaks Presbyterian. When you left Houston, Beau thought no minister could ever take Dave's place. And to this day, Beau still talks about the sermons, Sunday school lessons and conversations they had. Our prayers are with you as you grieve and remember this special man.

Dear Marian, Jenny, & Lucy - I have a lot of Dave stories - each one remembering his kindness and compassion, as well as his wit and wisdom. He exuded living the fruits of the spirit and walking the pathway set before him by God in Christ Jesus. Teaching the Bible and history were his passions and were par excellence! For those of us observing he taught us how to effectively shepherd a flock. I’m grateful to God for the 34 years I was blessed to have Dave as my friend, mentor, pastor, and colleague in ministry. “Well done good and faithful servant, well done.” May you now rest from the labors of your life in eternal peace.

He might have been Dave or David to most folks but to us, his board gaming family he was just "Rev"

I will miss all of the late nights every summer in Indianapolis. We stayed up WAY too late telling stores and laughing until it was well past our old men bed times, but those are the best times the times I will always remember about you.

I might not have shared your belief system but I can honestly say there are only two Men of the Cloth I respected and admired. Fred Rogers and David Dyer

To the Dyer family the tears and sorrow will soon pass but know that Rev touched a lot of lives and made them better

Rev, just in case I was wrong and you were right please put in a good word for me with The Big Guy in the Sky. I would look forward to rolling dice against you on the other side.

Goodbye, Farewell and Amen

It was truly a blessing to know David and experience what he shared with the rest of us. Among many things, I admired his intelligence, intellect, generosity of self, enthusiasm and skill for teaching, sense of humor, and welcoming acceptance. He has been a fixture in this presbytery for a long time and I join so many others in missing him. My deepest condolences to your family.

I can picture the kitchen table conversations happening now. In life, it didn't matter how long they had been apart, my mom/his sister could always pick up the conversation where it left off. I always looked forward to his children's sermons at the Church in Richmond. That and the willow tree were highlights of trips to grandma's. (And all the m&M's). Uncle David will be missed.
