Biography: Richard Brentwood Hobby, Sr. of Little Rock, passed away on April 13th, 2020. He was born April 20th, 1932 in North Little Rock, Arkansas to the late Elmer and Addie Purnell Hobby.
Known to his family and many friends as “RB” or just “Hobby,” he was a very kind, caring, generous, and hardworking man. He graduated from North Little Rock High School in 1951, where he was a multi-sport athlete, particularly excelling in football. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the USS Quincy as a member of an Underwater Demolition Team, the predecessors to the Navy Seals; he was very proud of his service. He married Selma Plowman Hobby in 1957 and graduated from Arkansas State Teachers College (now UCA) in 1965. He retired from Norvell Plowman Laboratories, as President, where he worked most of his career. He was a Scoutmaster and an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and camping, and he loved to tell stories about his adventures. He took joy in simple pleasures like watching Westerns and visiting with his family and friends. He was also a devout Christian and a longtime member of Second Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 54 years, Selma; his son Gregory; and his siblings Elmer Jr., Roy, Troy, Buddy, Maggie Manire, and Liz Atwood. He is survived by his children Richard, Jr. (Brent) and wife Kim of South Pittsburg, Tennessee and Melissa Hobby Bruckner and her husband Mike, of West Friendship, Maryland; his grandchildren Aubrey and Sarah Beth Hobby, Jack Adams, and Brian Hobby; and many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
