Biography: Madelyn Brown Ray, formerly of Little Rock, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 12, surrounded by her daughters.

She was born July 25, 1933, to the late Matthew and Evelyn Stainer Brown and was predeceased by the love of her life, James Middleton “Buzzy” Ray, Jr.  Madelyn is survived by her daughters, Christe (David) Eades of Charlotte, NC; Braun (John) Campbell of Traverse City, MI; and Jamie (Richard) Morrow of Charlotte, NC, as well as eight grandchildren of whom she was profoundly proud and loved fiercely.

A lifetime and founding family member of First Lutheran Church, she was deeply committed to her Christian faith and had been a long-time volunteer with the congregation’s Ministry for the Blind.  She also was a 15-year plus member of the St. Vincent’s Auxiliary where she volunteered on Tuesdays in the surgery waiting room.  Madelyn also was a member of the Tuna Society, her group of best friends from elementary school, since graduating from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.

A private family memorial was held in Jamie’s backyard earlier this week due to restrictions required by the current pandemic.  A graveside memorial will be held at Roselawn Cemetery, Little Rock, in the future.  The family suggests memorial contributions be made to First Lutheran Church, 314 E 8th Street, Little Rock, AR 72202.

I just read about Madelyn passing. I knew Buzzy well having worked on his farm with test plots for University of Arkansas. I enjoyed Buzzy and now and then saw Madelyn. Both were wonderful folks. I still remember Buzzy's Mom living on the farm. I enjoyed visiting on the farm. Sad to hear about Madelyn.

Christe, Braun, and Jamie

Moms provide their children with so much while they are growing up including a place to call home. Now your mom as been called to her home. I hope you are comforted by the promise to be with your mom in her new home when the time comes for you to join her in the sweet by and by. As I mourn the loss of Madelyn ( I use to call her Mom too) I'm reminded to be grateful for the time I have had with my own mother in this life. Our mothers have been such a blessing in our lives, and they will continue to bless us going forward. I hope your memories of your sweet Mother bring you comfort. She was an amazing person.

How Madelyn used to make me smile every Tuesday when I walked in that St. Vincent’s surgery waiting room after I finished a surgery! My daughter Phoebe volunteered there and got to know Madelyn so well. I loved her Halloween brownies! She would send Phoebe care packages up to U of A...always saying they were “from a little Angel”....You got that right Madelyn! She will b so missed. ...

We were sorry to hear of Madelyn's passing. We knew Madelyn and Buzzy at First Lutheran Church and at Christ Lutheran School. Madelyn was a kind, thoughtful person as shown by her service to others. Virginia also knew her as a volunteer at St. Vincent's. Her smile and ever present good humor was infectious. A nicer person would be hard to find.

My condolences to Christe, Braun and Jamie. Madelyn and Buzzy were were members of First Lutheran many years ago when I first met them there. They were wonderful people. Christe and my daughter, Ann had many good times together and my late husband, Bill and Buzzy enjoyed talking about the thing they loved, farming.

I was a classmate of Braun’s at Mount St. Mary. Braun, I am so sorry about your mom. I know it must be especially difficult during the quarantine period. Please be assured of my prayers for you and your family.

So sorry to hear of Madelyn's death. She and Buzzy were our great friends for many years.
Since Buzzy's death, I had taken her one or two watermelons during the summer. After she moved, we joked about how I was going to deliver to Charlotte. I hadn't spoken to her for several weeks and was surprised by the sad news.
Our best regards to the girls. This brings back memories of our days at the lake.

We are so sorry to hear of Madelyn's passing. She was a great lady and had a great family. We last saw her at Buzzy's visitation. I am sorry that the cousins didn't get together more through the years, but we all get busy with our lives and don't take the time, but in the end, it is all about family in life. I am sure you girls have great memories because both your parents were great people and fun to be around. Please let us know when the memorial at Roselawn will be and we will try to come down from Rogers.

Madelyn was one of my closest friends through high school and college. We kept in touch for a few years but life came between and although I tried to find her, I could not. It is with deep sorrow I discovered she has passed She was a wonderful friend and brought such cheer into the lives of all who were lucky enough to know her.....
