Biography:
James Julian Schreiber, 28, of Little Rock died Saturday, March 7 of complications from a heart infection, surrounded by his beloved family. J.J. was born January 14, 1992, son of Richard Schreiber and Cindy Fribourgh.
Born in Little Rock, J.J. was baptized by the Very Rev. Dr. Christoph Keller III on January 10, 1993 at the Market Street Bargain Cinema, first home of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church. He signed one of the beams of St. Margaret’s new permanent building, and was active in our congregation’s youth group as well as that of St. Mark’s where many of his friends attended. He attended Camp Mitchell a number of summers, and Happening 2010; and his sense of “community of faith” deepened further. He was confirmed by the Rt. Rev. Larry Benfield in 2007 and remained an Episcopalian until his death.
J.J. was a student at Cathedral School from Kindergarten through 9th grade and transferred to Parkview Arts & Science Magnet High School as a theatre student. J.J. had a leading role in his first production, Count Dracula; and loved playing soccer, even though he warmed the bench more than ran on the field. After high school, he earned his Associate Degree at Pulaski Technical College. He had a wide array of “odd jobs,” ranging from working with a lawn service to assisting with a carpentry project (which he hated) to serving in various restaurants.
In 1997, he joined the staff of a new restaurant, Petit and Keet, and worked as a server until he died. Petit and Keet’smanagement and staff became his second family, and he loved them all dearly. The visits, cards, balloons, calls, and texts during his hospital stay in early March were highlights of his days, and of Cindy and Richard’s.
J.J. was kind and loving, a friend to all he met, and the light of his parents’ life. He never left the house or ended a call without “love you so very much.” He and his brother Ben were closest of friends throughout J.J.’s life, with the exception of when Ben hid his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle action figures.
J.J. was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. James H. Fribourgh of Little Rock and Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Schreiber of Atlantic City.
He is survived by his mother and father, and his older brother, Ben; aunts and uncles Becky Casanova (Mike), Abbie Palmer (John), and Pat Rubenstein (Steve), Tom Schreiber (Jeane); and cousins Christin Peck, Matt Casanova, Sarah Palmer, Mike Rubenstein, Joel Rubenstein, Emily Kreiner, Adam Schreiber, and Jason Schreiber.
Memorial service will be at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church in Little Rock Thursday, March 12 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Margaret’s or the charity of your choice.
I feel such sorrow for your loss. Peace and love to you and your family.
