Biography: Colonel (Ret.) Henry E. Bielefeld, Jr. died February 7th, 2020 at his home in Little Rock.
Born in Louisville, KY in 1920, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years, Dorothy M. Bielefeld.  He is survived by his daughters, June Hemphill and Jan Zelnick, son-in-law Paul Zelnick, grandchildren David Hemphill (Sarah), Marc Zelnick (Amanda), Julie Lasseter (David), Lauren Strover (Jason), greatgrandchildren Taylor, Aiden, Henry and a wonderful extended family in the Louisville, KY area.

Henry was dedicated to being of service to his country and community.  One of seven children, Henry started work delivering newspapers as soon as he could ride a bike. He continued with the newspaper business until he enlisted in the Army at the outbreak of WWII.  He made the Army his career, later serving in the Korean War.  After retirement, he and Dorothy moved to Little Rock to be close to family. Henry then volunteered at Baptist Health until he was 90.  Henry was an active member of St. James UMC and LifeQuest of Arkansas.

The family would like to recognize his special friend, Ardella Roller and loyal friend, Jerry Parham.  The family thanks the Saints among us, all the loving caregivers especially Deuana Flowers, Shirley Grooms, Linda Mitchell, Samantha Cardwell, Victoria Wyles, Edwina Henderson and Phyllis Edmondson from SeniorKare.

Service in celebration of a well-lived, full life will held at St. James United Methodist Church on Saturday February 29, 2020 at 11:00 a.m

The entire Dempsey Family offers our condolences to Colonel B's Family. These two families have known each other for more than 60 years - both being part of the larger 159th Field Artillery Rocket Battalion family for three years in Vicenza, Italy. All of us six children enjoyed being with Henry and his Dorothy at a good number of 159 reunions over the decades. He was a beloved commander and friend. We already miss them both. Godspeed Colonel B and God Bless all of the Bielefeld Family. On behalf of our Family, Terry Dempsey

Jan, Paul and Family,
We are truly sorry for your loss. Your dad was very special to us. While working at LifeQuest, my Wednesday's always started with a hug and kiss on the cheek from Henry. He was always ready to help even serving lunches with he precious smile. Henry will be missed but never forgotten. Blessings of healing love to his entire family and friends.

COL "B" will always be fondly and professionally remembered by me as the best commander I served under during my Army career.
He and Dorothy always have had a special spot in our hearts (my wife, Henrianna "Hank", before her passing, and myself, ).
My condolences and sympathy to the family as God comforts and assists in your readjustments. We loved COL "B," too.

I remember Colonel B teaching me to play gin rummy riding the Buckner across the Atlantic--when my dad and I weren't seasick. Dad, T.W. Daniels, had immense respect for Colonel B and the 159.
