Biography:

Carmen Alexandria "Allie" Thompson has joined Heaven's angels to watch over her family and friends.

On Jan. 20, 2020, Allie lost her battle with liver failure as her parents, Richard E. and Tammy B. Thompson held her hands surrounded by her brothers, Rett (Dr. Caroline Nardi), Jason (Dawn), and sister Kerry (David).  Additional survivors include nephews Zachary and Dylan, nieces Annabella, Amber and Paige along with aunts, uncles, cousins, close friends and her lifelong childhood friends Jamie Atkinson and Dr. Hillary Williams, and Allie's fur babies Cash and Duff.

Allie was predeceased by her grandparents J. E. "Gene" and Jeanne Thompson and Leon and Claudia Beaton.

Growing up in Little Rock, she was involved in soccer, basketball, dance, piano, cotillion and youth softball at Jr. Deputy.  She lettered four years in fastpitch softball as a pitcher and infielder at LR Central High.

Allie's love of art began at a young age being taught by both grandmothers and a neighborhood friend, Susan Tillemans.  She loved her high school and college art teachers and they helped her blossom as an artist with awards from her best artist in the 3rd grade at Forest Park elementary going on to win the Arkansas Young Artists Association top award as a senior in 2008.  Allie went to Governors School at Hendrix College and liked it so well she decided to make it her college home.  She graduated from Hendrix in 2012 with honors (BA).  She went on to Buenos Aires, Argentina for a year to teach English, having minored in Spanish while at Hendrix.

Upon her return to Arkansas, she had exhibitions at galleries all over Little Rock including the Thea Foundation and Butler Center. She was asked to design a magazine cover for a new magazine in Northwest Arkansas, Idle Class, the front cover of the AR Dem Gaz Style Section, and was also commissioned to create custom art work for many of her followers. She was an adjunct professor of Drawing at Hendrix and taught Printmaking at the Arkansas Arts Center.  Currently, there is a marquee display featuring one of her best works, the "Heart of Arkansas", on the front of the temporary Arts Center facilities on Cantrell Road and Riverfront Drive.

Prior to her passing, Allie had been awarded a full scholarship as a Graduate Student at the UofA Fayetteville Walton School of Arts, Master of Fine Arts program having secured one of 10 openings into the program. She had just completed her first semester as a student and teaching assistant.

Her mixed media art was creative, inspiring, mysterious, intuitive and chaotic, but always intelligently inquisitive and interesting.  Her personality was sparkling, humorous, loving, friendly, inclusive, tender, caring and compassionate. She meant so much to so many. The physical world is missing a wonderful human being, but her spirit will live on and fill our hearts forever.

Special thanks to UAMS medical ICU staff, PHUMC Argue SS class, Lauren Whitmore,  everyone's prayers and letters and especially to our best friends, Mike and Anne Fuller, for their love and support.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: arkansasartscenter.org/tribute; hendrix.edu/givenow/; warmhearts.org/memorial-gifts (Pul. Co. humane society)

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church (4823 Woodlawn Dr, Little Rock, AR 72205) where a reception will immediately follow the service.

Allie was my teacher at the art center for two classes. She taught me how to use the printing press and work with the printing inks. Her lay-back yet attentive style of teaching calmed my overachiever tendencies. Her best friend, Hillary Williams, was one of my best high school art students. My fellow art teacher and best friend taught Allie’s art teacher. At the time we were in her classes these connections never surfaced. It would never have surfaced if this tragedy had never happened.
If you are looking for an example of connectivity to not only those around you but up to, and sometimes exceeding, the six degrees of separation this is it. We are a “village” and Allie is still a shimmering star that nurtured and cared for many of us…. Thanks Allie!

Dear Richard and Tammy,

I wish I could attend the memorial service for Allie and meet you both, but I cannot, so I will write this to you. Allie was my teaching assistant this past semester. She was always so kind and so funny. She told me about both of you, about her siblings, her time in Argentina, the wonderful community of artists she helped build through her teaching, her love for Carl Sagan, and said there was a dog that she couldn't wait to pet in Little Rock. She always had something interesting to say - adding depth and humor to conversations, both in class and privately, between the two of us. She never judged me for my love of cheap perfume, even though she was a trained expert. I miss her deeply. We had planned on meeting up over a cup of coffee, when she was well. I will pour an extra cup for her in the morning. You and the rest of your family have my deepest condolences. I hope you can have some small bit of relief within this difficult time, in knowing the impact Allie had made.

Sincerely, with love, gratitude, and sadness,
kara andree

To the Thompson family,

I am sending you my sincerest condolences in this time. I am absolutely heartbroken to hear that Allie is no longer with us but I hope you find comfort in knowing she is at peace. Allie was an incredible friend and neighbor to me since we met playing on the corner when we were in elementary school. Her incredibly vibrant spirit and friendly nature were always traits I admired in Allie. I will always remember our school bus rides and high school shenanigans fondly. You are such a wonderful family and always made me feel welcome in your home. I’m sending love to you all.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Jeffers

Richard and Tammy: Words cannot express my sorrow for you.
I don't even know what to say, but I cling to Rom 8:26 "the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans."
He will do the same for you when you are at a loss of what to pray for.

Richard, Tammy, and Family:
I send my most heartfelt condolences. I can only imagine the sense of loss that you are feeling. Allie was truly an amazing young woman. Those of us who got to know her had the benefit of her exuberant personality and those of us who had her as a printmaking instructor at the AR Art Center had the benefit of her unconditional encouragement and support as she taught us her craft. Please know that we have cherished your daughter and will continue to hold her close to our hearts.
With much sympathy<

I met Allie when she was just 14 years old coming to shows at Vino's. We took her under our wing as our little sister. She was wise beyond her years. Her art, along with her laughter and spirit, are things I will never forget. Peace and love to her family. Myself, and many others, are better in this life for having known her.
