Biography: Henry A. Thomas, born May 25, 1914, passed away Thursday evening, June 14, 2007, surrounded, as always, by his beloved family. The son of Henry Ash and Mary (Saugey) Thomas, he accomplished many things in his 93 years which his modesty and humility kept most from knowing. They included becoming a “barnstormer” and stunt parachutist in his teens, designing the original “Testors” balsa wood model planes which were sold nationwide for many years, and designed free flight and radio-controlled airplanes whose plans are still made into kits internationally. His lifelong love of aviation earned him induction into the American Modelers Hall of Fame and Arkansas Aviation Hall of Fame. A World War II veteran, he owned and operated Atlas Advertising Agency in Little Rock for over 40 years. He was a member of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church and the Lions Club. Henry was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Helen Jefferies Thomas. Survivors include his daughters, Kathy Douglas and husband Jim, Jane Lyon and husband Frank; brother, Robert Thomas of Hot Springs; sister, Anna Cross of Minneapolis, Minnesota; grandson, Steve Davis; granddaughters, Deborah Davis, Karen Bailey, Laura Hamilton, and Ashley Jackson; and seven great-grandchildren. Special thanks to dedicated caregivers Douglas Sorenson, Martin Craddock, and Mark Wilson. Henry was greatly admired and dearly loved by all who were fortunate enough to have known him. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at Roselawn Memorial Park officiated by Rev. Dr. Karen K. Akin. A reception will follow at the home of Frank and Jane Lyon, 18800 Cantrell Rd., Little Rock, 72223. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, should be made to the Donald W. Reynolds Center on Aging, or to the Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church. Cremation and service arrangements are by Ruebel Funeral Home of Little Rock, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com.
