Biography:

Florence Griswold Cahan went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, January 6, 2020 in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was born September 11, 1928 in Sherman, Texas.

Florence worked for Mrs. Tucker’s Shortening until she married Eddie  Cahan, also from Sherman, in 1951. They moved to Richardson, Texas in 1956 and she then moved to Decatur, Illinois in 1970 with Eddie’s job transfer.

Flo was an avid duplicate bridge player, excellent cook and hostess and friend to many.  Reading the latest novels and the newspaper from cover to cover were her daily passions. She was a member of DAR, PEO and Central Christian Church.  She enjoyed volunteering for Meals On Wheels and being a Hospice aide.

Flo and Eddie spent their last golden years in Little Rock to be close to family.  She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Eddie, after 65 years of marriage. Survived by daughters, Carol Cahan Pickett,(David), of Dallas Texas and Cathy Cahan Alexander, (Al), of Little Rock Arkansas;  Flo has 5 grandchildren, John, Austin and Sarah Catherine Alexander of Little Rock, Paige Pickett Rice, (Kyle), of Aledo, Texas and Preston Pickett of Dallas. Two great- grandchildren, Kaden and Weston Rice of Aledo.

The family would like to thank Claudia Aguilar for her loving care and companionship.  Mom considered her the #3 daughter,  we love her so much. We also thank everyone from Woodland Heights Senior Living for being so kind to mother-and especially the worship service there led by Zina and Art Horne from New Life Church.

There will be a Celebration of Life service for Mom on January 16th at Ruebel Funeral Home, 6313 W. Markham St. in Little Rock at 4:00 p.m. with a reception following at 5:00 .p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in Flo’s honor to Central Christian Church,  650 W. William St., Decatur Ill. 62522 or St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, 8300 Kanis Rd. Little Rock, 72204.

Cathy, Carol and everyone else you know what your Mom and Dad meant to me and my family. They were like a second family to me. Although we only saw each other yearly, my fondest memories will be of Eddie and Flo sitting at my piano. Eddie always said if you can sing it I can play it! My trips to conventions that your parents and mine were at, showing up for dinner and drinks or a dance with Eddie. Your parents took my mom and dad under their wings from the beginning days in the food industry and loved and cherished them as if they were there own. I loved your parents dearly and I am so happy to have had them in my life, my memories will always hold a special place in my heart. I know that Flo and Eddie are dancing together in Heaven and so happy to be reunited! Much love to you all and see you at the services.

Cathy and Carol,
We are so sorry for the loss of your mom. There were plenty of Bridge games played at 351 Hackberry Place! I bet she and Virginia have a game of Bridge going right now. Eddie and Bob are in the other room... Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

What a tremendous life. Flo was a one of a kind woman and she willl be greatly missed by so many. The idea of her being reunited with Eddie and seeing Jesus is such a beautiful thought. I am happy for her . However, I am praying for you, Cathy, as you are temporarily separated from your mom. I love you so much.

Your Mom was such a sweetheart and Texas lady. We had many good times together and I will miss our frequent telephone conversations. But she and Eddie are together again; she missed him so much. That thought helped me through a deep feeling of sadness when I received the news that she had passed. My sympathy to all the family.

Cathy I’m so sorry to hear of your mothers death. Even though we know she’s in a wonderful place it’s still hard to do without our moms here on earth. You were a precious daughter. May God bring you comfort and peace and may you always remember we will all be together again one day!! What a day of rejoicing that will be. Hugs and prayers my friend!❤️

I would add that I loved her as my sister-in-law as did my sister Shirley Hill. We will miss her even though we were not able to be together much in later years. Our hearts go out to all the family.

So sorry for your loss, but grateful for the long loving life Florence was able to enjoy with family friends. And thankful she was able to visit on the phone clearly one last time with her grand children ❤️❤️
