Biography:

Dr. Russell Renneau Moore passed away on January 4, 2020. He is survived by his wife Joan of 43 years; three daughters: Lainey Morrow (Ron) of Conway, Laura Moore of Maumelle, and Kimberly Moore of Tellico Plains, TN; and three grandchildren: Lillie, Sage, and Lila. He is also survived by his two sisters, Caryn and Robin, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, RADM Withers and Betty Moore.

Born in Little Rock, Arkansas on August 28, 1953, Russell traveled the U.S. and overseas first as the son of a Navy Admiral and later as he served his country in the Navy himself. He met his high school sweetheart when his father was stationed in Millington, TN. They later married in 1977.

Russell rose through the ranks in the Navy to Lt. Commander, but after getting his Masters of Divinity at Vanderbilt, chose to come home to Arkansas with his family to serve as a Methodist Pastor. During his first years as a Pastor, Russell served the remainder of his 20 years in the Naval Reserves. In his 30 years as a Pastor, he served seven churches around Arkansas and received a Doctor of Ministry from Southern Methodist University.

With priorities never so clear as in his last days, Russell said, “Life is about loving and growing. Anything you build is going to be ashes and dust.”

Russell was a wise man of vision and initiative who impacted many lives around the world. He was funny and keenly intelligent. He was a man of great generosity. He will be deeply missed.

A service to celebrate Russell’s life is planned for 11am on Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at Pinecrest memorial Park Cemetery. Instead of flowers, please donate in Russell’s honor to the American Cancer Society or to your local church.

Robin, I was sorry to see Russell’s passing in the paper. I remember him at Bryant First UMC when we were members there. He officiated a wedding at Crossett I played for several years ago. He was always so pleasant. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Prayers for the family. I met him at a funeral at which he preached and I sang. It was obvious that he knew and believed the word of God with all of his heart. God uses people like him in times like those and I was always moved and comforted by the words he spoke. We ended up being involved in many services like that first one. I’m honored to have served in a very small way with him. Well done, sir!

I am so very sorry to hear that Brother Russell has passed away leaving us to enter gates of Heaven as we are left to contemplate our own mortality on this earth. Joan, please know that you all have been in our prayers during Russell’s battle with cancer and the terrible effects of the treatments on his body. Like many who were fortunate enough to know him or have him as pastor of your church, I will miss him but I know that he is now even closer to God and no longer has to endure the pain of his sickness.

Joan and daughters, Vicki and I were so sad and shocked this morning to read of your loss. You and Russell were so special to us and the Des Arc church. Apparently no one here knew anything concerning Russell’s health problems. I know our church members will be in shock . I ‘ll never forget Russell and the special relationship we had . He was a true witness for Christ and will always love and remember him. May the lord bless and comfort you, John and Vicki Stephens

Russell Moore was one of the of the best men I have had the privilege of knowing. He was not only a great pastor to the Methodist Church in Crossett, but also Ginger and I considered him a dear friend. Not only did he love his Church but also he loved and served his country thru his Navy service. As politics would often enter our conversations, I would always appreciate his advice and guidance in making decisions on votes I would make at the State Capitol.
Ginger and I send our love and heart felt condolences to Joan and the rest of the Moore family.

Our hearts and prayers are with the entire family at this difficult time. Russell was so gracious to conduct our wedding ceremony in 2012 and one of our absolute favorite photos of the three of us on that day still hangs in our home. He served as a bright light in the night for so many. His wit, wisdom, and reverence meant so much to us.

Joan and girls, I’ve never known anyone like Russell Moore. I’ve always kept in touch with him since you all left Morrilton. He was such a great friend to me, helping me through a lot of very hard spots in my life. He always knew exactly the right words to say. He had healing words. I learned to lean on him for those reasons, too much I’m sure! I loved my friend very much and I will never stop missing him as I’m sure you won’t either! My prayers are with you !!!!
