Biography: John Collins Rogers, of Little Rock, passed away on Thursday evening, June 14, 2007, of complications from Alzheimers Disease. He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on August 12, 1933, to Avanelle Collins and Robert Oscar Rogers, Jr., who predeceased him. John attended Little Rock public schools, and graduated from Little Rock High School (Central), where he was on the varsity basketball team, in the Class of 1951. He attended the University of Arkansas for two years, before joining Worthen Bank. At the University he was a member and officer of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. During the Korean Conflict he served in the U.S. Army as a cryptographer with the Signal Corps. He was stationed in Orleans, France, and assigned to the American Embassy in Paris. After his discharge he returned to the University to complete his studies in business administration, then attended the Arkansas Law School ( UALR School of Law), taking those courses which pertained to all aspects of business. In 1959 he joined his uncles, John and Herbert Collins in their company, Collins & Company. He became a partner in 1965, and in 1975 he opened his own company, John Collins Rogers & Company, in the business of commercial real estate and insurance. John was a direct descendant of several early Arkansas families who settled in Drew, later Lincoln County: the Whitfields, Lays, and Morgans ; and Moses Collins, Jr. was his great-grandfather. He was a 33 degree Mason, a member of Trinity Lodge # 694, Scottish Rite Consistory, Scimitar Shrine Temple, and Royal Order of Jesters, Court 12. John was Potentate of Scimitar Temple in 1976. He volunteered many hours and many miles of travel on behalf of the Shrine Hospitals for Crippled and Burned Children. John and the former Barbara Crowell were married in 1963. He is survived by her, their three children, and ten grandchildren: John Matthew Rogers and his wife, Debra, Clayton and Katherine Rogers, and Debra’s sons Matthew and Timothy Dupont, all of Weatherford, TX; Alexis Rogers Caffey and her husband Robert (Pete), her children Grant and Meghan LeGrow and Pete’s son Clay, all of Little Rock, AR; Brittany Rogers Kenny and her husband Scott, their children Mason, Madelyn, and Matthew of Birmingham, AL. He is also survived by a brother, Robert O. Rogers III, and a sister and brother-in-law, JoAnne Rogers and J.A. James of Benton, AR., along with many nieces and nephews and several cousins. The family wishes to express their gratitude and love to Cinda TerVeer, his friend and special caregiver. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19, at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church. Graveside services are private. Pallbearers are John E. Atkins, Charles A. Brown, Richard J.
