A grand lady, interesting artist and 'a precious treasure of Arkansas.' I remember seeing Gov. McMath and his new bride shortly after their marriage. You could not help but smile at the couple, recognizing the loving gazes they exchanged. They seemed to glow in their affection for each other.
My friend, the late-Will Parker, did a full, formal re-paint of Betty's famed mural on the NLR sea-wall. We sat in the shade of a nearby tree there in the park, discussing the design and historic symbolism. It was wonderful. The sad portion of this tale, is the fact a large portion of the mural ( that was not painted by Betty - but approved by her, expanded the area's history & had been created to compliment the original art style) was destroyed by former NLR Mayor Pat Hayes.

What a wonderful soul you were...are. I miss seeing your smiling face and your fabulous art. What a gift you gave to all of us with that huge smile. Your mother, Mamie, was one of my brother’s favorite people. I believe she was one of the reasons he never missed church. ❤️ Godspeed, sweet lady. You gave us all so much.
