Biography:

Gregory Neal Hobby, 50, of Little Rock, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 10, 2019 surrounded by family and friends.  Greg, affectionally known as “Hobby” to many of his friends, graduated from Little Rock Central High School in 1987 as a four-year varsity swimmer.  He was a member of his collegiate swim and water polo teams at the University of North Carolina Wilmington and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.  Greg worked for Cranford Johnson Robinson & Woods advertising agency for many years and for the last 11 years served as an investigator for the Brad Hendricks Law Firm.

Greg pursued his passion for cooking over the years, honing his culinary skills as a caterer and working at various restaurants, most recently at the Pizza Cafe West and competing annually in the Buzz-BQ BBQ competition.  Greg felt that his greatest accomplishment was being a father to his son Brian.  He found the most joy in spending time with Brian and supporting him both in school and on the football field. Greg became a part of the extended family of Brian’s various football teams from pee wee football to high school.

Greg was proceeded in death by his mother, Selma Plowman Hobby; his maternal grandparents, Alleen and Norvell Plowman; his paternal grandparents, Addie and Elmer Hobby.  He is survived by his son Brian Gregory Hobby; his father, Richard Hobby; his brother, Brent (Kim) Hobby; his sister, Melissa (Mike) Hobby Bruckner; Brian’s mother, Stacy-Lynn Hobby; special friend Treva Stolki; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and the many friends that he considered family.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 10 a.m. in the chapel at Second Presbyterian Church with a reception immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Second Presbyterian Church at 600 Pleasant Valley Drive, Little Rock, Arkansas 72227.  Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com

Just found out about Greg's passing from a mutual friend. We graduated HS together in 87 from LR Central and Greg always kept me laughing. We disconnected after high school but he would cross my mind every once in a awhile. Enjoyed what time we did have back in the day and pray that his family receive the peace that Christ alone can provide.

Mr Hobby, Brent, and Melissa. I was very sad to hear of Greg’s passing. I fondly remember the time we all spent together during our youth in competitive swimming. My prayers go out to all of you in this challenging time. Wish you all peace!

Praying for the Hobby family during this difficult time. Greg and I became friends while he was lifeguard at the Hidden Valley Pool many years ago. He was a great cook too! I use to eat at U.S. Pizza on Rodney Parham back in the mid 90’s, Greg was always back in the kitchen cranking up the rock music, I’ll miss him.

I'm hurting for Brian and the rest of the family, and I will personally miss Hobby a great deal. He never met a stranger (including me) and put others' feelings before his own. I'm proud to call him a friend, and I am simply glad he isn't suffering. For the record, he made excellent bbq, pizza, hot wings, and pancakes (with sprite in them)...Amazingly fluffy! I have many fond memories of him.

Greg was my roommate at UNC-Wilmington. We played water polo and swam together. From reading others comments he was still the same guy I met so many years ago. He had a way of making you smile and laugh no matter what the situation was. I really enjoyed being around him. I'm sorry to hear of his passing. I'm sure he touched many lives for the better and his smile and laughter will be remembered.

What can I say . Hobby had more friends than anyone that I can think of . He made friends quickly , I felt like I’ve know him for a long time . That is the way he wanted it. All the nicknames he had given to his fellow workers at pizza cafe . He also was very serious about how the pie tasted today. We are going to miss you . May god bless you and your entire family and friends.

I cannot express how much I loved getting to know Hobby over the past 8+ years at BHLF. You were truly one of a kind and I will never forget your laugh. You brightened up everyone's day the moment you walked into the office. I already miss you terribly man, but I'm glad you are no longer suffering. Rest in Love.

We will miss your laugh. I will miss giving you a hard time about your "Cowgirls". They are losers but you are a winner. No more pain for you ever, and as you walk in Heavens door greeting all the people waiting to hear that loud infectious laugh of yours. I admired how you raised Brian, never missed an opportunity to brag on him. You will be missed, and I will miss my free offerings from you. :)

I never met Hobby until he began working at PCW, when he came in that door you knew he was there! He had a zest for life and will be truly missed.
