Biography: Maxine T. O’Brien, age 91, of Little Rock, died on June 4, 2007. She was born on November 13, 1915 in Plaza, North Dakota. Maxine grew up in a small town on the vast and rolling prairies of North Dakota that stretched out like the ocean to the sky. Her father owned and operated the only pharmacy in that area of the country, serving local residents, farmers and the neighboring Indian reservations. She nurtured joyous memories of her childhood in North Dakota all her life. Maxine attended Minot (ND) State Teacher’s College and MacPhail School of Music and Dramatic Arts, Minneapolis, Minnesota. She dedicated her adult life to her late husband and surviving children and grandchildren, filling theirs with love and devotion. Maxine was predeceased by her beloved husband of 66 years, Allen J. O’Brien, and is survived by her son Michael A. O’Brien of Little Rock, daughter Mary Jane O’Neill of Los Altos Hills, California, her grandchildren Jennifer Hays, Megan O’Brien, Matthew O’Brien, Christopher O’Brien, and her great grandchildren James, Michael and Abigail Hays, and a brother, Quentin Schulte of Stanley, North Dakota. The family gives thanks for the professionalism and compassion of the staff at Briarwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and especially for the loving care given Maxine over the last several years by staff member Marilyn Johnson. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, June 7 at Arkansas State Veteran’s Cemetery in North Little Rock. Arrangements are by Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com.

Michael, I was with Dad when we learned about your mother. He was very stoic. You have endured so much. I am so sorry for your personal losses over the past 3 years. Life is for the living and I sincerely hope that you find some happiness amid all the pain you have suffered. You are in my heart and prayers.
Your cousin,
Jo Ann
