Doris Mae Edwards Buchanan

Doris Mae Edwards Buchanan

Oct 3rd, 1921 - Aug 20th, 2019

Biography: Doris “Daisy” Buchanan passed away peacefully in her home in Little Rock on August 20, 2019 at the age of 97. Mrs. Buchanan was born on October 3, 1921 in Clinton, Oklahoma, the daughter of Charles Millard Edwards and Victoria Nola Brown Edwards. She was predeceased by two brothers and a sister.

Mrs. Buchanan was married to Dr. Francis Randall Buchanan until his death in 2004. They were married in 1942 in Oklahoma City. Their marriage, and her husband’s medical training, took them from Oklahoma, to Duluth, Minnesota and Chicago and Maywood, Illinois, before settling in Little Rock in 1950.

Daisy was a wonderful mother to three sons. She was as even-keeled as a person could be, always happy, smiling and without a temper. She smiled through years of boys’ mischief, an always hungry household, countless trips to the golf course so her sons could play golf, several litters of dachshund puppies in her kitchen, ...

She was a member of the Arkansas Medical Auxiliary, the Women’s’ Emergency Committee, the Fine Arts Club, the Arkansas Art Center and the Twentieth Century Club. She and her family thoroughly enjoyed years of membership in Riverdale and Pleasant Valley Country Clubs. Doris was also a long time member of Pulaski Heights United Methodists Church, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Butler Class.

Mrs. Buchanan is survived by her sons Dr. Randy Buchanan ( Dr. Patricia) of Eugene , Oregon; Chuck Buchanan (Julie) of Denton, Texas; and Doug Buchanan (Carver) of Charlotte, North Carolina. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the HomeHelpers companies of Mr. Sam Sellers and Mr. Peter McIndoe for their years of assistance to Mrs. Buchanan. A very special thank you goes to their Clementine Hopkins, who in over eight years of attention provided Mrs. Buchanan with great friendship and outstanding care.

A family service will be held in honor of Mrs. Buchanan at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to that church at 4823 Woodlawn Dr., Little Rock, AR 72205.

Mrs. Buchanan and "Dr. Frank" were a part of my life since I was adopted by Evelyn and Marion Craig, MD. Family get togethers, shopping with Mother and Mrs. B, Sundays at Church (other days as well), cold Fall evenings on the football field, so many wonderful memories. I grieved when I heard Dr. Frank had died and I grieve with Mrs. Buchanan's family now; but what a wonderful life she had and how very many lives she made happier with her own unfailing cheer and good will!

The picture of her with this wonderful summary of her life is perfect.

I know this is overlong, but I'd like "the boys" to know that just a short time before her death I was in Little Rock visiting friends. I'd tried - unsuccessfully, for some reason - to get in touch with your Mom before so decided to just drive by the house. Once there, I thought, "what the heck", & walked up and rang the door bell. Shannon answered and after some back and forth, your Mom welcomed me in before "fixing her hair" and such. We had a short but wonderful chat. "Herself" hadn't changed a bit. She was a beautiful lady outside and in...…...Catsy

‘Mischievous boys” Your Mom was a perfect lady. I know y’all will miss her. My mom really enjoyed being her neighbor and friend. And she was always sweet to me, even giving me a lovely “Pink Lady” party for when I was getting married. Enjoy your good memories of her.
