Biography:

Eleanor Shimek Mitchell, 87, of Little Rock, went to be with her Lord Friday, June 28, 2019.  She was the daughter of the late Steve Shimek and Elizabeth Marek Shimek of Hazen.  She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Mitchell.

She is survived by her sisters Alagean Shimek and Mary Ann Griffin (Henry) both of Little Rock; her niece, Melanie Matthews Peak (Daniel),  nephew, Billy Griffin (Ginger); great niece and nephews Austin Matthews, Alix Matthews, William and Cooper Griffin; and one aunt Louise Williams of San Diego, CA.

Eleanor was a founding member of Christ Lutheran Church, where she faithfully served as lead coordinator of the Altar Guild and was the official Sunday morning coffee maker.  She was passionate about supporting Christ Lutheran School and became the greeter and coffee hostess for Wednesday Chapel services to be with the parents and kids.

Eleanor graduated from Little Rock High School in 1950.  She immediately went to work for Southwestern Bell and retired 40 years later.  She had 35 years of perfect attendance.  Due to her love of people, she went back to work and created a second career as a sales associate for Talbots for 14 years.  She made many new friends at Talbots from customers to mall walkers.  Eleanor never met a stranger.

The family wishes to thank Eleanor’s “angel” Eartha Coleman and Tanita Scott for their loving care of Eleanor and her family.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 30, 2019 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Ruebel Funeral Home (6313 W. Markham St., Little Rock 72205).  Funeral services will be Monday, July 1, 12:30 p.m., at Christ Lutheran Church (315 S. Hughes St., Little Rock 72205).   Followed by burial at Pinecrest Memorial Park.  Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran School (315 S. Miss Eleanor was such a sweetheart! When I first became a member at Christ Little Rock 22 years ago she was one of the first people to introduce herself to me! Such a caring and loving woman of God! She would always give me the biggest smile whenever I was a greeter or usher every single time she saw me! Rest In Peace dear Miss Eleanor, and as Donna said, until we meet again! Well done good and faithful servant!

I miss you . I miss you so very much. You were one of my God Mothers. I am thankful for that . Especially right now. We had a lot of fun together. Yes, shopping and eating out and just talking on the phone. I would talk . You would talk. HOWEVER.... when I cut up and you were worried. You always let me know. But it was always followed with this. “ Melanie, you that I love you. You just need to settle down and KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT. Weekly, or monthly you would tell me that. Sometimes I did . Sometimes I didn’t. But you loved me anyway. Unconditional love. You were the person that was proud of me . You always bragged about my teaching skills. I wanted to give up on it so many times. But you would not let me. You reminded me of HOW I achieved my “ higher” education. That would be Granny. So I’m still doing it. I’m tired of it and I told you that. But this next year will be for you. And I will do my best to behave and do what it is that you want me to do. I’m not the leaf .... I’m the tree. But I’m not sure what it’s going to be like without you. Melanie

I miss you. I miss us. You were my “person “ I could tell you ANYTHING. You would listen, and then you would talk. Therefore “ Melanie.... has to listen “. Heard it over and over. My world will not be the same without you in it. I get that the world changes... I really do. And I also get that no one lives forever. But, I’m going to miss you in my world. I love you. I’m so glad that you are home. I’m just really going to miss you.

Miss Eleanor was my special friend, teacher, and sister in Christ. She taught me so much about how to be a woman of grace and faith. I loved her and will miss her so very much. There have been so many holes to fill since she fell ill as she did so much for us at the church & school.....tasks we never even knew she performed until she was unable to do them. That was Miss Eleanor though, she truly had a servant's heart. Oh, how I wish I'd asked her for her bread recipes! I pray she is dancing with her precious Mom in heaven as I type this!! Goodbye for now Miss Eleanor. Until we meet again.
