Biography:

Robert Cheatham Downie, Jr. died in Little Rock on May 13, 2019.  Born on March 4, 1951, Robert was the son of Robert Cheatham Downie and Virginia Pattillo Downie and the grandson of Edward Blake and Helen Harley Downie and James Anderson and Annette Stillwell Pattillo.

Robert attended Little Rock public schools, graduating from Hall High in 1969.  He attended Vanderbilt University and later earned his C.P.A. degree, working in Dillard’s corporate offices for 35 years.

Robert was a devoted member of Fellowship Bible Church.  He volunteered his accounting services at Little Rock Christian Academy and was a regular and enthusiastic participant in activities of the Bridge House, where he developed life-long friendships.  An avid sports fan, Robert favored the Razorbacks and the Green Bay Packers.  Perhaps his most unique passion was traveling around the country riding roller coasters as a member of the American Coaster Enthusiasts.

Robert had a keen sense of humor and enjoyed spending time with his Downie and Pattillo cousins -- most recently at a family gathering in Monteagle, Tennessee.  Robert is survived by his sister, Margaret Howell Downie of Phoenix and first cousins Ned Downie, James Carvell (Nell), Glenn Ellen Downie, Helen Harrison (Fred), George Talbot (Ann), Nelia Talbot Fletcher, Downie Talbot (Catherine), Katherine Downie, Ann Hutchings Campbell (Stuart), Thomas Harley Hutchings (Bibi), Beth Brothers, Susan Pattillo Nichols, Janet Pattillo Rash (Robert), James Pattillo III, John Spradling, Jim Spradling (Valerie), and Philip Spradling.

A celebration of Robert’s life will be held at Fellowship Bible Church, 1401 Kirk Road, at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2019.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Pulaski County Humane Society or to a favorite charity.  Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com

So sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in the words spoken at Revelation 21:3,4 “With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away".

I just found out today that Robert had passed away. I am sorry that I missed his funeral. I have many wonderful memories of Robert when I attended First Baptist Church in Little Rock with him. Robert was such a unique person and a very godly man. He was always a delight to be around. I can only imagine what he is doing right now....certainly having the time of his “life” as he has seen his faith now become sight.

Margret sorry for your loss and I hope and pray all is well with you. I'm sorry I won't be able to attend his services. I see in your post all the trips and hiking and adventures you are always doing its great thanks for the post, My dad James (Jim) Anderson Pattillo Jr. Roberts uncle would always invite Robert to come to Dallas to watch the Arkansas Razorbacks play football he would always stay with us and my father, myself and Robert would attend those games. Robert would always have a smile on his face and be very upbeat about watching the Hogs play football. He was very involved with his church and loved by many people there. Will miss Robert a lot and are glad he is Heaven with the rest of his family... God bless Robert and rest in peace we loved you always...

I forgot to say how regretful I am not to have made a trip to meet you in Hershey, PA to ride the roller coasters there. You have now graduated to a roller coaster we cannot experience here.
