Biography: Enrique Ospina, 72, of Little Rock, Arkansas passed away on March 29, 2019. He was born on September 25, 1946 in Bogota, Colombia to Joaqu?n Ospina and Carmen G?mez. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Sof?a; sons C?sar Caballero (Alison) of Little Rock, AR, Pablo Caballero of Colorado Springs, CO, and Rafael Ospina of Athens, GA; granddaughters Julianna and Kennedy Rose of Little Rock, AR; siblings Juan Manuel Ospina, Jaime Ospina, Mar?a Eugenia Ospina, Arturo Ospina, (all of Colombia), and In?s Elvira Owens of Fresno, CA; and a host of friends and family in the U.S. and Colombia.Enrique earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in North Carolina and a doctoral degree at Texas A&M. His career in agricultural economics included roles in Texas, Georgia, Washington DC, and Arkansas. The family extends sincere gratitude to the staff and administrators at Cottage Lane Health and Rehab for their years of steadfast love and care and to Kindred Hospice for their compassionate service. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 2 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Ruebel Funeral Home at 6313 W. Markham in Little Rock followed by a recitation of the Rosary at 6:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be officiated by Father John Marconi at Our Lady of the Holy Souls Catholic Church at 1003 N. Tyler Street in Little Rock on Wednesday, April 3 at 10 a.m.

While poking around on the internet this Easter morning, I thought to myself... I wonder where Enrique is these days. We worked together long ago at Winrock, and for a while carpooled to work together. I had not thought of those day, or Enrique for many years, as we had lost touch after I left Winrock. I found news of his passing, and it saddens me greatly. Enrique was one of those guys you meet in your life, and never forget. He was always positive, and fun to be around. His stories about his family in Colombia were incredible. I regret that we had lost touch, and it is particularly sad to find it on Easter Sunday, but in a way I am thankful to have found this obituary. He always spoke so wonderfully about Sofia and the boys. I am thankful and privileged that I got to know Enrique, and I will pray for him and his family often.

To the Ospina family, my name is Rodney Lytle a Warren Wilson College friend of Enrique. I share a deep and heartfelt sadness because Enrique was a dear friend and brother to many of us who worked with him on the college farm. He was a leader, hard worker and very serious about his working with all of the students. He will be missed and remembered as a person of high regard and respect. Along with many alumni, I/we send our condolences for your loss. I will send up a prayer and hold you all up in the light. I share your sorrow.

I am so sorry to hear about my old friend Enrique?s passing. I am hopeful both he and the family have now found peace.I always enjoyed working with and for him and have always credited him for bringing me back into the important work of agriculture development. Enrique was a close friend and part of our family for many years while we were graduate students at NCSU and Texas A&M. He was the first babysitter of our newborn daughter, Jeela, in both NC and TX. Enrique was always giving, compassionate and supporting as a friend. Over the years we got to know many of his family members, most notably his sister Ines. His memory is etched in our families history. We are grateful to have known him as a friend and close member of our family. While saddened by his departure, we know he is free from the chains of his afflictions.
