Biography: Jerry Lee Mabry, 83, with courage, grace and dignity, left his family to cherish his memory on September 13, 2018. Jerry was born on June 3, 1935 in Vilonia, AR to the late Billy Sunday and Morecia Sowell Mabry. He grew up in his beloved Conway with his younger sisters Billie Lou and Suzie. Jerry attended and graduated from Conway Public Schools, Hendrix College and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. His degree from UAMS was a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology which he adeptly used to help countless people from all over the country achieve their dream of having a child. He also served his country honorably during the height of the cold war, in both active duty and in the reserves as a Medical Technician, achieving an honorable discharge with the rank of First Lieutenant. On August 2, 1963, he married the love of his life, Betty Jo Hunt in Little Rock. Over 55 amazing years, they raised two daughters, Shawn and Michele, who were the light of his life. Whether it was to see Shawn perform as a Rockette or Michele play basketball, Jerry never missed a performance or game. If you wanted to see a man beam with pride and love, all you had to do was ask him about his family. Shawn and Michele each married and had families of their own and the arrival of each grandchild were moments of great joy for him. Jerry loved doing anything for or with his grandchildren whether it be spending time in the garden, walking the golf course, or watching them play soccer or basketball. Jerry was always there for his family and friends, doing whatever he could to help, such as teaching Algebra, working on the lake house or comforting a loved one such as the care he provided for his mother, mother-in law and sisters. The only thing that came close to matching his achievements as a son, husband and father would be what he did during his career as a Medical Technologist, working with Dr. Francisco Batres at the Arkansas Fertility Clinic. Over 40 plus years, Jerry helped literally tens of thousands of people conceive a child. When you realize that many of those children are grown and have families of their own, Jerry?s assistance helped close to if not over 100,000 people know the joy of having a child. He truly is a remarkable man whose legacy will span centuries. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Billy Sunday and Morecia Sowell Mabry and sisters, Billie Lou Cannon and Suzie Mabry. Left to celebrate his life are Betty; daughter, Shawn Olsen, her husband, Buddy and their sons, Connor and Brandon; daughter, Michele Meadors, her husband, Mark and their daughters, Mabry and Elizabeth. The entire family is grateful for the help of Dr. Joseph Beck, Dr. Kevin Heifner, Dr. Michael Pollock, and Dr. John Meadors. These incredible men and their wonderful staff helped Jerry in his courageous fight with cancer. For those interested in donating in Jerry?s honor, the family request that you donate to either Hendrix College or Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church. A celebration of Jerry?s life will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, September 17th at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeffrey Hampton and Rev. Jay Clark officiating. A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 16 from 4:00-6:00 pm at Ruebel Funeral Home.
