Biography: Susan Metta Waits, 34, died Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at UAMS in Little Rock with her family by her side. She leaves her mother, Shirley; her father, Lyndal; her brother, Jason; and her grandmother, Florene (Mimi); her uncle Terry Waits; aunt Rona Waits; cousin Amanda Annear (Allister) and Ella; and Sarah Waits. Susan was preceded in death by her father?s parents, Mason and Irene Waits and her mother?s father, Jack Renfro. Born in Paragould, Arkansas on April 8, 1984, her family moved to Batesville, Arkansas when she was 7 months old. She graduated from Batesville High School and the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville. With great determination, she moved to New York City and lived there 10 years until in 2016 she moved to Los Angeles, California. Her ability to write about fashion led her to become the fashion director at PureWow, a digital media company that publishes women?s lifestyle content. Susan had a passion to serve others in mission projects. In high school she was active in the United Methodist mission projects. In college she was involved in the Wesley Foundation where she worked in New Orleans doing clean up following Hurricane Katrina. While living in New York she travelled to the devastated Rockaway Island to serve survivors of Hurricane Sandy. The family wishes to thank the ICU and the Infusion Center staff at UAMS for their excellent and compassionate care during her admission. In lieu of flowers, please show your love for Susan in any one of these ways; American Cancer Society, ASPCA or your local Humane Society, Batesville First United Methodist Church Youth, Susan Waits Memorial Fund at First Community Bank ? Batesville. A graveside service will be held on July 28, 2018 at 2:00pm at Old Rondo Cemetery near Texarkana, Arkansas.

Susan was a LIGHT! And she had the best laugh. When I think about the times I spent with her in NYC and LA, I hear her laughter and can see her blue eyes sparkling. She was such an amazing person?so kind, so thoughtful, so smart, witty and talented. I'm so thankful to have known her and I will miss her dearly. Much love to the Waits family.

Dear Shirley, Lyndal, and Jason, Knowing how sad I am, I can only guess your pain and sorrow. I got the news here in China and wish so much that I could be back in Batesville to express my condolences in person. Susan was a light in this world. She brought happiness and kindness with her wherever she went. I am so grateful that she is one of the first people our daughters met and got to know when we moved to Arkansas in 2001. My prayers are with you. With much love.

Susan and I weren't close, but I am very saddened to learn of her passing. We worked together during a very difficult time in my life and I will always remember her as the kindest, most genuine person in that workplace. She was truly unique - her compassion stood out and made you leave every interaction feeling warm and cared for. Her energy has made the world a better place - thank you Suz.

My profound condolences for your loss. As Susan's colleague and friend, I learned so much about not only turns of phrase but more importantly, how to turn a stranger into a friend. She was brilliant, funny and so so kind. Shirley I feel so lucky to have met you and witness your grace as a mom, and I send prayers for you and your family. Thank you for bringing such a beautiful woman into our lives.

Her willingness to serve others shows that her parents and church family brought her up in the love of Jesus. May she rest in the love of God and may you find comfort in, one day, seeing her again in glory.

My wife & I did not know Susan, but we regret the sorrow you feel. We?ve grieved the loss of sons who were younger than her and died in accidents rather than illness, but the sense of loss is the same. I?m sure it doesn?t feel so right now, but we can tell you that as time passes you will be able to remember more of the good times and dwell less on your loss. We found that each person grieves in a different way and at different times, so we encourage each of you to allow for those differences in your families.
We are of the Christian faith and we dealt with our pain based on our belief that God is still sovereign even when we don?t understand tragedy. May you find comfort as you walk through this ?valley of the shadow of death? and may friends share their good memories of Susan with you.

I went on mission trips with Susan during college with the Wesley Foundation. I remember as a freshman, in Florida after hurricane Ivan, Susan was so fun to be around. I was always laughing at her stories, and she would always stand up and say what everyone else was thinking. I'm so sad to hear of her passing. I'm not surprised to hear so many talk about what light she was. She truly did brighten up a room with her presence.

I met Susan through OMP! She was on staff for a couple of camps my daughter & I participated in. I truly don?t know if I?ve ever met a single person with a more joyful soul! I can?t imagine how much she will be missed by everyone in her life.
I?m grateful I got to spend two weeks with her...my soul is better by knowing Susan! So many prayers for you!
