Biography: Kitty Jo Pietzuch was born on Mt. Nebo, Arkansas on August 22, 1924. She spent her childhood on Mt. Nebo and in Dardanelle, Arkansas with her mother, father, and two sisters. She left home to join the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, and was stationed in Camp Lejeune, N.C. After the war, she worked in New York City at the Federal Reserve Bank for several years. She returned to Little Rock, Arkansas where she married Joseph Pietzuch. There they raised their only child, Melissa, who lives in Portland Oregon with her husband, Mike. While living in Little Rock, Kitty Jo worked as a pattern tester for the knitting company Leisure Arts. She created countless afghans, sweaters, socks, hats, and more, many of which were featured on covers of the Leisure Arts Magazine. As a master knitter, Kitty Jo shared her skills generously, teaching her granddaughters and countless others in knitting groups that she organized in Arkansas and Oregon. Kitty Jo was a very active member of Second Presbyterian Church for decades, involved in her Sunday school class, organizing Young at Heart speakers, and serving in the Soup Kitchen. Kitty Jo traveled extensively over the years, both within the U.S. and throughout Europe, Mexico, South America, and Australia, usually to visit her three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She moved to Portland in 2008 to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law, and passed away peacefully on May 16, 2018 at the age of 93. Kitty Jo is survived by her daughter Melissa (Mike), grandchildren Erick, Christina (Hector), and Molly (Angus), and great grand-children Sebastian, Eve, Lucia, and Lindsay. A graveside service will be held at Forest Hills Memorial Park, on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com.
