Biography: John T. "Jack" King, 51, of Little Rock, AR, passed away on May 9, 2018. Jack was born August 12, 1966, in Little Rock, AR to Charles R. "Bob" King Sr. and Edith A. "Edie? King. We knew he was going to be the life of the party when he interrupted his mom?s baby shower so he could join the festivities! From the age of 9 months, Jack ran everywhere. He enjoyed life, and was always busy doing something or reading about different things. He was in Boy Scouts for several years and attained the rank of Eagle Scout, he was always prepared for almost any scenario; he played t-ball and little league baseball; and was in the band in high school, playing the saxophone. He loved music, but most particularly he was an ardent fan of the Canadian rock group Rush, their lyrics and sound spoke to his soul. He had an eclectic collection of music that ranged from classical to country to heavy metal and rap. He graduated from Ole Main High School in North Little Rock in 1984. He had an early interest in all things military, so it was no surprise when he joined the Army reserves but then decided to join the Navy right out of high school. He traveled the world with his brothers and sisters in arms with the United States Navy and served in 2 wars in the Middle East. He piloted some of the first LCAC Hovercrafts for the US Navy and later in his career taught others to pilot them along with teaching nautical navigation. He retired from the US Navy as a Chief Petty Officer after 22 years of distinguished service. He then joined his father and brother Charlie as a Right of Way Agent for Doyle Land Services, and traveled around the country with his work for the past 12 years. He became interested in motorcycles at a very early age, mostly because of his older brother Charlie. Later in life, when they both worked the same job assignments, they both bought motorcycles and enjoyed riding around the areas where they were working. He also joined a local motorcycle club, American Coppers, whose membership includes law enforcement, first responders and military veterans. He found his peace of mind on the open road riding his motorcycle whenever he could, whether he was riding with his friends and his wife or by himself. He was also a Patriot Rider and rode in many funeral processions for fallen soldiers, law enforcement and first responders. He was a voracious reader and it was not uncommon for him to be reading 2 to 4 books at a time, from Sci-Fi to history. He loved history and architecture, wherever he was staying, he always searched out the historical areas, military battlefields, and architecturally interesting places in that particular town or state. He spent a great amount of time photographing his surroundings and enjoying the outdoors. His top priority was his family. His daughter Sarah was the apple of his eye. She danced into his world 3 days after he arrived home from his first deployment. He loved being her dad and getting to spend time with her. He was so proud of the beautiful, smart, and loving woman she grew to be. He dearly loved his wife Melissa, whom he met through mutual friends 9 years ago. Although it took him a few tries at wedded life, and a few months to convince her to go on a date, he had finally found his heart mate with Melissa. Melissa was the love of his life. They did everything together, even watching the same movies while he was out of state working and having weekly over the phone concerts. He adored her family and they him! He touched so many people?s lives. He always had a smile, a joke that was probably horrible, some crazy story, or some off the cuff fact that you didn?t know you needed to know. It was always hard not to laugh with him. Jack was preceded in death by his mother, Edie and older brother, Charles R. "Charlie" King Jr. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Melissa King and her family, and by his daughter, Sarah King of Chesapeake, VA. His is also survived by his father, Bob King of Jonesboro, AR, his sister, Lorraine Anderson and family of Holdrege, NE, sister, Judi King of Little Rock, AR, brother, James King and family of Russellville, AR; his fur babies Betty, Bubba, Penny, Mindy and Sheldon; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and tons of friends. A celebration of Jack?s life will be held at Ruebel Funeral Home, 6313 W. Markham St, Little Rock on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Interment with full military honors will be held at a later date.
