Biography: Dorothy Leah Singer, 91, of Little Rock, Arkansas passed away March 29, 2007. She was born, April, 28, 1915 in the Bronx, New York, daughter of Morris and Pauline Katz, and sister of the late Milton Katz. While visiting relatives in Cleveland during her 20’s she met and fell in love with Louis Singer, marrying him on November 1, 1941. They moved back to New York City where their son Leslie was born. Then it was back to Cleveland for the birth of their daughter, Sandi, then again back to Long Beach, NY where the family was raised. Louis died in 1976 and in 1982 Dorothy moved to Little Rock to join Leslie and his wife Connie Fails; her daughter Sandi and her husband, James Friedland, now both of Cooper City Florida. Dorothy is survived by five grandchildren and one great-grandchild: Hannah Singer— who provided exceptionally loving care during “Grandma DeDe’s illness following her recent stroke; Noah and Kate Singer; Lauren Friedland of Cooper City, Florida, a Registered Nurse who also provided exceptional care; Larry Friedland and his wife Emilie and their daughter Miranda. Dorothy also treasured her long friendship with Vera Yount of Little Rock. Dorothy was the classic, loving and proud Jewish Mother. To her, every family member was brilliant and gorgeous and she loved each one with the most adoration and praise possible. She also loved her independent life, to tell stories and to eat sandwiches. She was deeply loved in return and will be missed. Dorothy was buried next to her husband and mother at Beth-David Cemetery in New York on Monday, April 2. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 6, 10:00 AM at Temple B’nai Israel in Little Rock. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Temple B’nai Israel.
