Biography: Jane Mitchell Cockrill Taylor, of Little Rock, was born on December 17, 1927 and received her wings on Wednesday, April 11, 2007. She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Bracy Cockrill and her father Sterling Robertson Cockrill; and by Jack M. Stewart and Ralph Lewis Taylor. Survivors include her daughter, Jennie Cockrill Stewart of Little Rock; son, Jack “Jay” Murdock Stewart, Jr. of Bradenton, Florida; brother, Sterling Cockrill, Jr. and wife Adrienne of Little Rock; grandson, Curtis Murdock Jones of Little Rock; and nieces, Mary A. Cockrill, Anne Laser and husband Sam, both of Little Rock. She was interested in playing bridge, having co-founded one of the first duplicate bridge clubs in Little Rock. She was a member of the Junior League of Little Rock and Christ Episcopal Church. Along with other childhood friends, she founded the knitting club, the purpose of which was to make and send an afghan to British soldiers before World War II. She was known as a person who loved to dance and jitterbug as it was called during the early 1940’s when sorority and fraternity dances were held at the Women’s City Club and the Marion Hotel Ballrooms. She loved to read and co-founded a group called “the Smart Cookie Book Club” whereby the only refreshments served were store-bought cookies and soft drinks, making it easy for the hostesses. She attended Sullins Junior College and completed her education at the University of Arkansas where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. A visitation will be held on Friday, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Ruebel Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at Christ Episcopal Church officiated by Rev. Scott Walters, then at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Woodland Heights, officiated by Rev. Marty Dalby. Receptions will follow both memorial services. The family wishes to especially thank Cheryl Smith for her care and assistance to Miss Jane, daughter Jennie, and Princess the Poodle.
