Biography: W. Guy Delaney, 86, of Perryville, AR died November 17, 2017 with his family by his side. He was born June 25, 1931 in Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Charlotte, his eldest daughter Rebecca, his parents, Bill and Jewel Delaney and his beautiful sister Billie. He is survived by his daughters Amy Young, Elaine Delaney, Annette Delaney and his son Harvey Young, six grandchildren; Adam and Andrew Bruce, Josh and Nathan Young and Delaney and William Dunlap, sister and brother-in-law Ginger and Carroll Johnson, nieces Judy Stanke, Debra Barrett, Stacy Cooper and nephews Bruce Permenter and David Johnson. He graduated from Milby High School in Houston, Texas then attended Texas A & M where he earned his B.S. in Chemical Engineering and P.E. Degrees. He then went on to serve as a Second Lieutenant in the army at Fort Chaffe, Arkansas. Upon completion of military service, he, Charlotte and Rebecca moved to Pasadena, Texas where he was employed by Signal Oil and Gas. In 1963, and four daughters later, Guy received his call to the ministry. Charlotte, being the ever present rock of strength, supported this new chapter in his life. The family moved to Austin, Texas and he attended Austin Theological Seminary where he earned his Masters of Divinity. During his career, Guy served as Associate Pastor of Bellaire Presbyterian Church in Houston, Texas, Associate Pastor Second Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, Arkansas, Pastor and Head of Staff at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Arlington, Virginia, faculty member of Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia, Interim Pastor at All Soul?s Presbyterian Church in Richmond, Virginia, Pastor and Head of Staff at Kirk in the Pines Presbyterian Church in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, President of Mo-Ranch Presbyterian Retreat and Conference Center in Hunt, Texas, Interim Pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Jonesboro, Arkansas, Interim Pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, Arkansas and Interim Pastor for First Presbyterian Church in Morrilton, Arkansas. While on staff at Union Theological Seminary, he received his Doctorate of Ministry. Guy was a champion for the disadvantaged and fought against injustice. Through his example, he taught his children about compassion and diversity. As a family they attended political rallies, boycotts, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, and civil rights events. He was an advocate for equal pay and benefits for all. Guy was a strong opponent of the Vietnam War, as witnessed by his unpopular billboards. He was chairperson for the Arkansas Committee for National Health Insurance and testified before Congress with Ted Kennedy. Unfortunately, he did not see this come to fruition. Guy?s generous heart, compassion and humor were witnessed by all who knew him. He was there to listen, advise, support and at times entertain. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Morrilton, Arkansas.
