Biography: Jonathan Collier Lovett, 30, of Little Rock, died Tuesday, April 10, 2007 of cancer. An accomplished, versatile graphic artist and web developer, he was Creative Director/Web Master for Softwyre.com in Maumelle. Jonathan also excelled in diverse interests including music, where he played lead guitar in the band William Martyr 17, and scouting, where he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Jonathan was born in Little Rock December 8, 1976. He graduated from Little Rock Catholic High School for Boys in 1995, attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and in 2002 graduated from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR), where he made the Chancellor’s list for academic achievement. After graduation, he worked for UALR as a graphic artist, project manager, web developer and web master. He also worked for the Encyclopedia of Arkansas History and Culture at the Butler Center at the Central Arkansas Library System, and he served as a web consultant for Matmon Internet Services before joining Softwyre.com. As a Boy Scout, Jonathan became a member of the Order of the Arrow, and for his Eagle Project in Troop 604, he developed handicapped access and parking at Second Presbyterian Church, where he was a confirmed member. Jonathan enjoyed living life on the edge, snowboarding before it was an accepted sport, white-water kayaking, rock climbing, sharp shooting and most recently racing his sport bike. It was because of a common interest in motorcycles and fine cuisine that he developed a close friendship with Dr. Bart Barlogie (Dr. Bart), director of the Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). When Jonathan's cancer was diagnosed, Dr. Bart served as his primary physician. He was preceded in death by his father, Tom Forest Lovett. He is survived by his parents, Jane Dees Lovett Holt and Jack Wilson Holt Jr., retired Chief Justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court; his grandmother, Marcia Collier Dees; a brother, Tom Forest Lovett, Jr. (Leslie); two sisters, Kelley Holt England and Candace Holt Chappell (David); two nephews, Andrew Holt England and Davidson Holt Chappell; and two nieces, Avery Elizabeth England and Carson Chappell, all of Little Rock. He also is survived by his aunts and uncles, Janet Lovett Brink (Roy) of Houston, Texas, Nodya Dees Lambert of Little Rock, Fredonia Dees Witherspoon (Gayland) of Greenville, South Carolina, Sandra Dees Breshears (Dr. David) of Pine Bluff, Mozella Dees Flucht (Elmer) of Mayflower, and John David Dees (Sherri) of Crystal Lake, Illinois; and nine cousins. For the last four and one-half months of his life, Jonathan received loving care at UAMS, and many of his caregivers became special friends. The family wishes to express heartfelt appreciation for the wonderful care and love given to Jonathan by the doctors, nurses and staff at UAMS, especially his dear friend Dr. Bart. The family further wishes to acknowledge Dr. Art Squire for his friendship and medical assistance. Individual thanks are sent to the many friends, known and unknown, who showered Jonathan with unconditional love and care during his hospital stay, including the Rev. Cannon Peggy Bosmeyer and the congregation of St. Margaret's Episcopal Church and Jonathan's colleagues at Softwyre and Hardwyre. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2007 at St. Margaret’s Episcopal with the Rev. Canon Peggy Bosmeyer, followed by inurnment in the church columbarium. Immediately afterward, Jonathan's life will be celebrated at a reception in the church welcome center.
