Biography: Janet Evelyn Torrence Hadfield, age 59, died quietly and peacefully surrounded by family in Little Rock on September 8, 2017. For two years she fought a brave and courageous battle against breast cancer. Janet was born July 18, 1958 in Camden, to her late parents Kenneth Gordon and Imogene ?Snooks? Torrence. She graduated from Hall High School in 1976 and three years later married her grade school sweetheart, Charles (Chuck) William Hadfield, Jr. Making their home in Little Rock for more than 38 years, they had three children, Charles (Charlie) William Hadfield, III (Paige), Amanda Marie Hadfield and Jessica Noelani Hadfield. Janet was a great cook and very much enjoyed preparing and hosting big meals for family and friends. Her children and all their friends took advantage many times of her reputation as a short-order-chef and the sign in her kitchen, ?Mom?s Diner: Open 24 Hours?. Her home was well known to be open-to-all, a place for anyone to stay anytime, and it was always a bustle of activity. Janet loved and embraced life, as well as the outdoors and was a Razorback fan of the first order, going to most home football and basketball games. She enjoyed sitting on her front porch, watching deer and feeding the birds, particularly hummingbirds. She had an amazing green thumb, could grow anything and enjoyed growing flowers and rescuing her friend?s plants. She always had dogs and cats, and for many years raised golden retrievers. She enjoyed the many evening bonfires outside their home with family and friends, as well as years of memories at their cabin, boating and swimming on Greers Ferry Lake. She had an infectious laugh that rubbed off on everyone around her, and a stranger was simply a friend she hadn?t met. She also had that rare ability in being able to blend candor and humor at the same time. And when she needed to get your attention, she would put her fingers to her lips and let out a whistle that would rattle the stars. In the last ten years, it was her three grandchildren, Ava and Lila Hadfield, and Colton Gill, that occupied much of her time. She was the quintessential ?Mimi? and loved reading to them, playing with them, and sharing nature with them. Preceded in death by her parents, she is survived by her husband, three children, daughter in law, three grandchildren, sister Kay McGehee (Bobby), nephew Mack McGehee, and her longest and dearest friend, Cathy Hall. The family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to Drs. Issam Makhoul, Konstantinos Arnaoutakis, Megan Davis, and Suzanne Klimberg, Jennifer Casey and the wonderful staff at Hospice Home Care. A visitation will be held at Ruebel Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, September 14 at 2 p.m, at the same church she and Chuck were married, St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2223 Durwood Road, Little Rock. A family graveside service will be held at Pinecrest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Pulaski County (www.warmhearts.org), the Susan G. Komen Foundation (www.komen.org), or the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org). Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com.

Our prayers and thoughts are with Chuck and his family. I have known Chuck and Janet since Jr High school and though we were separated by many miles since we graduated from the U of A, we always stayed in touch over the years. Some of my fondest memories were camping and hiking with our friends during our college years. God bless you Chuck
