As a student of Gayland at Clemson University, I remember him as a patient man with a very calm and comforting presence that was welcome in the midst of a demanding, and sometimes stressful, design cirriculum. His design work impressed me with its deep respect for the natural environment. I know his guidance has touched many students at Clemson and he will be greatly missed. I am grateful to have known Gayland and I am so sorry to hear of his passing. My thoughts are with his family.

What a great uncle! A genius for sure! Desiree and I are so blessed to own a "GAYLE WITHERSPOON HOME", and I might add, the best one he ever created...Grandmother Witherspoon's home! He was the Architect and my dad Lawrence built it. Thanks Unc the Gayle! Thanks.

Gayl was a special man! He and Freddie were dating when I was little, so he was always a big part of our lives. Loved him like a brother! My sympathy to all the Witherspoon family. Baby Jane
