Rob was a role model for all who knew him. He was
so modest, unassuming, and kind that it was sometimes easy to forget that he was a deeply committed and courageous advocate for civil rights who was also a scholar of the first rank with impeccable credentials. He had no need to impress you with his knowledge or accomplishments. I smile when I think of him.

Carol, I was saddened to see Rob's obituary in the paper on Tuesday. I have missed seeing him in class at Jim Dailey Fitness Center. Please know that I speak for the entire class that we will miss seeing him and send our thoughts and prayers to you and your family in this time of loss. He was a very nice man and I always enjoyed conversations with him before and after class.

Rob was a treasured member of the UA Little Rock History Institute and he was a pleasure to work with during my five years as History Department chair. A regular attendee of our "Evenings with History" series, I always looked forward to catching up with and chatting with him there. He will be missed.

Dear Rob was so instrumental in my spiritual direction and recovery from divorce. I will always remember Rob's open-mindedness and his empathy for others. I hope he rubbed off on me. I'll never forget the volume of songs he knew as we sat around the campfire. He is missed but it is such a blessing to know that he will be with us in spirit.

Carol-we have you in our thoughts and prayers...you have touched so many lives at Rayne Memorial and New Orleans.

Hugs and prayers,
Kim Hough

Rob was an old friend of mine, beginning when he lived in Texarkana. I had the opportunity to go tent camping with Rob and his kids. I also played tennis with Rob a couple of times. He won most of the games. Rob was intelligent and always passionate about his faith and his politics. I valued his friendship.
