Biography: Mrs. Margaret Remmel Shelton, widow of Colonel Douglas C. Shelton, passed away in hospice in Little Rock on Monday, February 13, 2017. A Little Rock native, Mrs. Shelton, known all her life as Sis or Sister, was born at St. Vincent?s Hospital in 1923, daughter of Paul Remmel and Margaret Ledwidge Remmel. She graduated from Little Rock (Central) High School in 1941, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and served as President of the Student Council. Sis attended Hendrix College. During WWII she married Lieutenant Shelton, accompanying him to Texas where he was assigned as a flight instructor for the Army Air Corps. Following the war they returned to Little Rock, where Sis became deeply involved in community service activities and Lt Shelton joined the Arkansas Air National Guard. In 1952 Mrs. Shelton joined Captain Shelton in Okinawa for 6 months during his service as a radar officer for the Korean Conflict. In Little Rock Margaret was very active in the Junior League in a variety of community service activities and the Aesthetic Club, as well as serving on the Board of Trustees of the Ada Thompson Memorial Home. A parishioner at Holy Souls Church, she and her husband were active in the Holy Souls School Parent Teacher Organization. Colonel Shelton returned to active duty with the Air Force in 1965, and Margaret accompanied him to Washington, D.C.; Eglin Air Force Base in Fort Walton Beach, Florida; and Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. Upon Colonel Shelton?s retirement in 1973 they returned to re-establish Little Rock as home. Both became active with the Little Rock Dog Training Club, and Margaret resumed her participation with the Aesthetic Club, serving as President in the club?s centennial year of 1983, and chairing the Board for the Ada Thompson Memorial Home. Margaret (Sister) Shelton was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brother, Paul (Sonny) Remmel Jr., and sister-in-law, Marjorie Sharp Remmel, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Colonel (retired) Harvey W.C. and Harriet Lambert Shelton of Naples Florida, and granddaughter, Kathryn Shelton. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Lieutenant Colonel (retired) Chris and Debra Shelton of Little Rock, Dr. D. Cragin and Kay Shelton, Jr., of Alexandria, Virginia; grandchildren, Sam Shelton, Leland Shelton, and Christian Shelton; nieces, Marie Remmel Sims, Margaret Remmel Drangle, Laura Remmel Powers, Kathleen Remmel; and nephews, Colonel (retired) Harvey Shelton, Knox Shelton, and Paul Remmel, III. The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice Home Care for their outstanding service and dedication. Visitation will be at Ruebel Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 from 5 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of the Holy Souls Catholic Church on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 9 a.m. Interment will be at Little Rock National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice Home Care, 2200 S Bowman Rd, Little Rock, AR 72211.

Mr Chris and Deb, sorry to hear if your loss. Sorry I wasn't there for her last days. Que let me know if her passing. She had been in my thoughts of late. My prayers are with you and your family.

Sis was one of my mom's closest friends. She was a wonderful lady and always lit up the room when she arrived. She will be missed.

Chris, Cragin, and family, The pretty picture of your Mama brought back so many happy memories of our parents and fun times with lots of laughter.
There must be a great party going on in heaven.

Your mother had an abiding influence on our lives, and she will live in our hearts and in the fond memories of so many people. All-caring, constantly comforting, full of wisdom, always approachable, and full of compassion for everyone (and every furry friend) that had the honor of knowing her. Cragin; Sorry for your loss. One of the biggest successes for you Mom was your personal and professional successes.
