Biography: Colette Hotine Pirie, 79, died Sunday, October 16th, 2016 with her family by her side in Roland, Arkansas. She died from Brain cancer. Born and raised in Bayville, NY the daughter of Harry and Stella Hotine. She graduated Oyster Bay High School class of 1954 and met her lifelong husband George while they were both working as lifeguards for the Town of Oyster Bay at Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park Beach in 1955. Colette attended the University of Rochester and later finished her degree at the University of Georgia earning a B.S. in Computer Science and M.S. in Statistics. She was an Instructor of Computer Science at UGA, Athens, GA from 1983 to 1996 As a wife of a US Naval officer she raised a family and gained many life-long friends. She loved the water and was a strong swimmer. Through the years she enjoyed snorkeling, scuba diving, synchronized swimming, Masters swimming and competitive swim coaching. After living for many years Athens, GA, Colette and George retired to Waikoloa, HI where she enjoyed snorkeling, playing Bridge, genealogy and travel. They traveled the globe extensively visiting all 7 continents. Highlights include trips to visit extended family in France, the United Kingdom, the Jersey Isles, South Africa, and Australia. She loved life and wanted to see the world. She survived by her loving husband of 60 years, George Pirie; sisters Lucille Griffin (Gary) of Newport, VA and Berenice Knight (Don) of Woolrich, ME; sons: George Pirie Jr (Sharon) of Eaton, GA; Gordon Pirie (Tammye) of Castle Rock, CO and Harry Pirie (Beth) of Charlotte, NC; daughters: Wendy Humphries (Harvey) of Athens, GA; Suzanne Palmquist (Robert) of Parker, CO and Jeanie Richardson (Robert) of Roland, AR; fourteen grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers any donations or memorials may be placed in her name at a charity of your choosing.
