Biography: James Currier "Jimmy" Lawson was born April 27, 1922 and passed away February 23, 2007. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert G. Lawson, Sr. and Mary Esther Currier Lawson, a brother Gilbert Lawson, Jr. and two wives, Rosalind McDermott Lawson and Carolyn Niemeyer Lawson. Lawson graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1939 and Henderson State Teachers College in Arkadelphia in 1943. He entered the army upon graduation and served in the European theater as a squad and platoon leader in the 80th Infantry Division. After thirteen years of managing McDermott's Store in Wilmot, AR. Lawson and his wife, Rosalind relocated to Crossett, AR. establishing a new location for McDermott's for twenty-five years until retirement. James enjoyed golf, tennis, hunting, traveling and was an active member of the First Baptist Churches in Wilmot and Crossett and the Second Presbyterian Church in Little Rock. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Rawls Lawson, Little Rock, AR; daughter, Suzanne Axtell and husband, Tom, Longview, Texas; sons, James C. Lawson, Jr and wife, Ellen, Orange Beach, AL., William G. Lawson and wife, Bridgett, Bryant, AR; brother, Dr. Raymond Lawson and wife Leona, Hot Springs, AR; five grandchildren, Leo Bounds, III, Shannon Karl and husband, Art, John Lawson, William and Joshua Lawson and two great grandchildren, Spencer and Hayden Karl. Four stepdaughters, Rev. Mary Jane Winter and husband Ted, Richmond VA, Judy Forcier and husband, Don, Osage, MN, Glenda Newman and husband Dwain, Fayetteville, AR, and Barbara Pugh, Gulf Shores, AL. He has seven step grandchildren, four step great grand children and three nieces. Visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 25, 2007 at Ruebel Funeral Home in Little Rock, followed by a Graveside Service at 1:00 p.m. on Monday at Pinewood Memorial Park in Crossett. I worked with Mr. Lawson at McDermott's from 1977 to 1979 while in High School. He taught me a lot about business and life. I still foundly remember my time there. He was a great man and will be missed greatly.
