Biography: Dr. Thomas Hugh (Bill) Allen of Little Rock passed away Friday, February 16, 2007. Born in Little Rock on April 6, 1935 to the late Edward Allen and Lillian Wilkins, he attended high school on an academic scholarship to Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire and graduated in 1952. He received the Founders Scholarship from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee and graduated in 1955. After receiving his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1959 from the University Of Arkansas School Of Medicine, he joined the U.S. Air Force and was a flight surgeon with the 356th Tactical Fighter Squadron stationed in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina from 1960 – 1962. Later, he completed his plastic surgery residency at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri in 1967. Afterwards, Dr. Allen returned to Little Rock and began private practice and was certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 1971. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Arkansas Medical Society, the Pulaski County Medical Society, the Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, and the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. Dr. Allen was a Plastic Surgery Consultant to the Cripple Children’s Division of Arkansas Social Services Department from 1967-1985. He was the founder and chief surgeon of St. Vincent Infirmary’s Free Cleft Lip and Palate Clinic and plastic surgery consultant to the Medical Services Review Committee of the Arkansas Medical Society. He is preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Parks Allen, and his brother, Edward Stewert Allen II. He is survived by his daughters, Kay Allen Bird of Dallas and Lori Allen of Little Rock; his son-in-law, Ross Bird; and granddaughter, Carolyn Bird. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Rachel Allen; niece, Celeste Allen Barker, and nephew, Edward Allen III. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Ruebel Funeral Home with St. Vincent Infirmary’s Chaplain Michael Barnes officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
