Biography: John Milton Elliott 71, of Little Rock passed away February 23, 2016 at home with Susan by his side. He was born September 13, 1944 in Bryan, Texas to the late Zelma Dial Elliott and Milton Smith Elliott. He leaves behind the love of his life, his wife of 49 years, Susan Henderson Elliott, his son William Milton Elliott and his wife Tammy (commonly known in the family as John?s favorite daughter-in-law), and three beautiful granddaughters, Bailey, Taylor, and Sydney. Morning Egg McElliott?s and Sunday night dinners were some of John?s favorite family times. John was a 1962 graduate of Hall High School where he played basketball and in the summers participated in American Legion baseball. He graduated from Little Rock University, now known as UALR in 1967, with a B.S. in marketing. While in college, he was a letterman on the first baseball team, where he pitched and played first base. He was also an active member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. In the summer of 1966, John started his career with Traveler?s Insurance. He was transferred to St. Louis for two years, but was easily lured back to Little Rock to go into the agency business. His insurance career was interrupted when the Air National Guard unit was activated in January 1968 over the USS Pueblo incident. He spent a year on active duty, including four months in Japan. John resumed his insurance career with several insurance brokerage firms as Senior Vice President, handling corporate accounts. During his career he served on several Agent Advisory Boards of major insurance companies. John frequently expressed his gratefulness for his loyal clients, some for over 35 years. John had a passion for golf, and was privileged to have the opportunity to play with Tom Kite, Zach Johnson, and most recently nine holes on the TPC Stadium Course with Howard Twitty, getting a par on hole 16. While he loved playing with the greats, he cherished frequent rounds with all his golfing buddies in Little Rock, Beaver Creek, and Scottsdale. John?s many contributions to the community include Chairman of the Finance Committee for St. James United Methodist Church in 1982, during the time the main sanctuary was built, Chairman of the Repertory Theatre Board, President of the Capitol Club, as well as being on the UALR Business Advisory Board. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the John M. Elliott UALR Scholarship Fund, c/o the UALR Foundation, 2801 South University Avenue, Little Rock, AR 72204-1099 or to a charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held Friday, February 26, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at St. James United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com

Susan and Will,
You have been close in my thoughts, prayers and heart. I am comforted by the many good memories of time spent together.
Gary is now John's heavenly caddie...

I do apologize for the tardiness of this note. I still struggle with Gary's loss, as well as the loss of other friends. However, my tardiness does not, in any way, reflect my sorrow over the loss of John.

Peace.

Dear Susan and family,

What a wonderful guy that called me a friend, what a privilege.
Will never forget those days hanging out with Johnny and Kretch, going with you{in the Jeepster) and the Elliotts to his Legion ball games.

Again what a guy.
He will assuredly be missed.

I last saw John at the driving range and we had a good visit. Later, I was reminded of how long we had been friends when I came across an old 8mm film clip since transferred to dvd, and there we were as teenagers at Lamar Porter field. Left-handed first baseman and pitcher, graduate of Hall and LRU with a passion for golf describes us both. Rest in peace my friend.

I had the privilege of knowing John since the Rector Means and Rowland Insurance days all the way through to him retiring from Regions Insurance. Such a fine gentle man. I always looked up to John for his obvious and open love for his wife, Susan. He touched a lot of peoples lives and we are all better for knowing him

I have known John since we were kids at First Christian Church. What a fine gentleman! I'm grieved to hear of his recent death but am confident he is now with Jesus. I pray blessings on Susan and the rest of his family. I'm unable to be at the service due to my husbands surgery on Friday but will definitely be with you in spirit. God bless!
