Biography: Ruth Frances (Fran) Bowman Miller flew to heaven on angel wings as she made her transition from her earthly home peacefully in Little Rock, AR on December 20, 2015 at the age of 95. Fran was born on February 2, 1920 in Dexter, MO to the late Byron Whitener Bowman and Ruth Blankenship Bowman. She always called herself a groundhog baby. Fran is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jay, son, Phillip, step grandson, Marcus, and great grandsons, Drake and Corwyn. Survivors include son, J.W. Miller, Jr. (Dana), daughter-in-law, Trish Miller, granddaughter, Mary Katherine Jones, step grandson, Bruce Guthrie (Megan), great granddaughter, Winter, step great grandchildren, Madison, Lilly-Grace, Mason, Sam, and Matthew. Fran graduated in May 1941 from Southeast Missouri State Teacher?s College in Cape Girardeau, MO with a BA in English with a Minor in Social Science and History. After graduation she flew to New York for training as an Airline Stewardess with American Airlines. After completing her training she chose Fort Worth, Texas as her home base. Within a year she met and married Jay William Miller, a military pilot. They were blessed with two sons, Jay William Miller and Phillip Dale Miller. As a devoted wife and mother Fran was active in her son?s activities through the years. She was a den mother, Sunday school teacher, and refreshment coordinator for the various activities. As her sons grew older she returned to the workforce. The family had moved from Tulsa, OK to Little Rock. Her careers included helping her husband with the family carwash, working at St Vincent Infirmary, La Petite Academy, and Baptist Medical Center Childcare. Working with the children at the Baptist Childcare Center was where she stayed until her retirement. Faith was important to Fran throughout her life. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and really enjoyed fellowship with her Sunday school class. On Sundays she would bake cakes and make coffee before class began. When she was unable to attend her regular church she would listen to the services at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church on TV. Her motto was you have to believe in Jesus and Love for one another was the most important thing in life. Fran was always up to date on current events, politics and the stock market. She was very sharp intellectually with the mind of someone much younger than her age of 95. Her wit would outsmart anyone willing to go up against her. She was strong willed and determined which contributed to her living such a full, long, healthy life. Ruth Frances Bowman Miller had many names. She was in her adult years a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, and coworker. To many who were not related she filled the role of mother, granny, granny Fran, Grandma, and GranGran. She shared her love freely and in return was loved unconditionally by many. A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Ruebel Funeral Home, 6313 West Markham, Little Rock, AR 72205. Eulogy will be given by Diana Billings accompanied by Darin Billings and music by Vickie Eaton. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Little Rock Compassion Center, Arkansas Hospice, or Disabled Veterans.

I called her Aunt Francis and always enjoyed her cards and letters and her faith in GOD. I remember around Christmas time I always knew she would be baking and freezing cookies for people. You will be missed by so many and greeted by all the family already in heaven.

I knew Frances through Trish and I felt like I knew her. They were two people who clung to each other as a lifeline. I know that Trish has a way of making life better for others and I love her for that among other things. My prayers are with you and the family.

Please accept my deepest sympathy for the Miller family. The Holy Bible promises that death and all its causes will be done away with in the future. Revelation 21:3,4. I hope your loving memories bring you comfort.

Fran taught me courage, strength, hope and how to love people with the Love of God. I KNOW she is in heaven!!! I feel good knowing she will be my guardian angel until I meet her again one day, although, I can feel a crevice in my heart that will never be filled on this earth. RIP, Ruth Frances Miller, and be assured that I am already practicing how to smile like you, and love like you.
