Biography: Mildred Harrison Calhoun passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, August 8, 2015. She was 89 years young. She was the wife of the late Dr Joseph D. Calhoun, and the mother of 6 children, grandmother to 8, and great grandmother of 6. Surviving Millie are her daughters Alice Calhoun Morgan (Chris) of Dallas, TX and Val Calhoun Halsey (Jack) of Pensacola, FL, together with sons Joseph D. Calhoun (Vicki) of Little Rock, Graham G. Calhoun of Atlanta, GA, Harrison N. Calhoun of Plano, TX, and William A. Calhoun of Boise, ID. Grandchildren include Leslie Morgan Horton and Hillary Morgan Ferrer; Kristi Fraser Staley, Scott A. Fraser, Paige Fraser Hadfield and Natalie G. Calhoun; India Calhoun Nabarro; and H. Tyler Calhoun. Great grandchildren include Luke and Joseph Horton; Sam and James Staley; and Ava and Lila Hadfield. Millie was born on September 24, 1925 in Little Rock to Marmaduke Johnson Harrison and Mildred Estelle Hornibrook Harrison. She attended Mount St. Mary School (valedictorian), and then graduated from Webster College of St Louis, MO. She met her husband-to-be working at Ft. Roots Hospital during WWII, where he was in residence. Millie was very active in her church, first at Our Lady of the Holy Souls Catholic Church and then at Christ the King Catholic Church. During her childrens' school years, she spent most afternoons chauffeuring kids to swim team practice, Rockettes, football practice and cotillion. Millie was an avid birdwatcher and loved to fish. She spent as much time as she could on the water and in nature; at 88 she fulfilled her longstanding desire to float the Buffalo River. Millie shared herself with everyone, always reaching out to those needing a friend. She became an R.N. at 53. Her compassion for those in hospice and in need was manifest. She was unafraid to express her beliefs, and stand up for what was right. Loving, thinking, outspoken and humbly holy, she will be missed by many, but she was eager to be in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. A rosary will be held Friday, August 14, 2015 at 6 p.m. in Christ the King Catholic Church. A memorial service will be Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 10 a.m. also in Christ the King Catholic Church followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com

My friend Wanda Torbett of Little Rock let me know of Millie's death. I am saddened to hear of this event. Millie was a lovely woman - our children swam together and knew each other as children. My heart goes out to Val and Alice and the boys.

Please accept my sincere condolences.
Your mom was a sweet and fine lady and I always liked her, even though she thought I was sneaky(high school dating years)

Thank you, Millie. Even though we never met in person, you exhibited much class, grace and a very big heart. Your letters displayed a great sense of humor and a passion for all that life entails. Lelia and I are forever in your debt. Rest well Millie, you've earned it. ~ Joy Gregg
