Biography: Julian Hofflin Slager, Jr., age 79, of Little Rock, passed away Monday at St. Vincent Infirmary. He was born on July 9, 1936 in Montgomery, AL to Julian Hofflin Slager, Sr. and Hilda Kalmon Slager. He was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his sister, Kathryn Slager Marin (Peter), and his daughters, Pat Hamilton (Ken), Kathy Grundfest (Jack), and Julie Genn (Steve), as well as grandchildren, Chet Paulk, Blair Grundfest, Lauren Grundfest, Zach Genn and Sarah Genn, and the mother of his children, Gayle Wise Slager. He worked as part of the executive team of United Dollar Stores, Inc. in Dumas, AR until the mid-1980s. He was responsible for buying and merchandising hard goods, and made many trips to New York, Chicago, and to Asia. Afterwards, he owned and operated National Sewing Machine retail stores. He served a term as president of Meir Chayim Congregation in McGhee AR. He was a member of the LITROW investment club and a founding member of the Tuesday Group. He was an avid tennis player and an excellent golfer. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 12, at 10:00 a.m. at Congregation B?nai Israel with a reception following. Pete was my boss many years ago when I had a summer job at United Dollar Stores. He was a wonderful boss, and that job led me to pursue a business degree and career. My condolences to his family. I'm sure he will be greatly missed.
