Biography: Helen Louise Kimbrough Caruthers, 77, died at home on Sunday, August 2, 2015, after a 6 year battle with ovarian cancer. Helen?s dedication to classical music performance and education was surpassed only by her devotion to her family. She leaves behind Dr. Samuel Brooks Caruthers Jr., her husband of 55 years, her son Samuel Brooks Caruthers III and daughter-in law Stephanie Toon Caruthers, her daughter Virginia Leigh Caruthers Prassel and son-in-law Frank Hetherington Prassel, and her beloved grandchildren, Audrey and Celeste Caruthers and Helen and Frank Prassel. Born of parents Orman Lenier Kimbrough and Virginia Porter Kimbrough, Helen grew up in Grenada, MS. She graduated John Rundle High School in Grenada then earned her degree in Music Education from Mississippi State College For Women. After marrying in 1960, Helen assisted Sam through medical school by teaching vocal music in Memphis, Tennessee. During her husband?s stint in the Air Force she was a church organist in Warner Robins, GA. She was an active member of the church choirs at St. Luke?s Episcopal Church in Denver Colorado, and St. Mark?s Episcopal Church in Little Rock, AR, where she also created and led the children?s choir. Since arriving in Little Rock in 1977 Helen has been a passionate advocate for the teaching and performance of classical music. In addition to teaching piano to several generations of students, she was a tireless volunteer for The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, The Arkansas Chamber singers, the Little Rock Musical Coterie, and countless other musical organizations. She was also a member of the Aesthetic Club. She pursued all these endeavors with a gentle voice and a graceful poise that charmed all who knew her. Helen was preceded in death by her siblings Orman ?Sonny? Kimbrough and Virginia ?Ginger? Kimbrough Hunt, and by her son John Kimbrough Caruthers. The funeral will be at 1:00 PM on Monday, August 10th, at St. Mark?s Episcopal in Little Rock. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation to your favorite arts organization. Arrangements by Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com.

I am sorry to hear of your loss. May you find comfort in knowing that the Bible reveals God?s purpose to restore the dead to life by means of a resurrection to a paradise earth, where sickness and death will be no more. Jesus said: ?The hour is coming in which all those in the graves shall hear his voice and come out.??John 5:28, 29; Revelation 21:1-4. I hope you find some comfort in this promise.
