Biography: Howard Grant Ball of Maumelle, Arkansas, died while riding his bicycle on the Arkansas River Trail, June 15, 2015. Those who know and love Howard know that there is no other way Howard would have wanted to go. Howard was born to Willis H. and Dazel Ball on September 28, 1952, in Marlow, Oklahoma. His early years were spent growing up on a dairy farm in Oklahoma. But, Howard considered Arkansas his home ever since he moved to Little Rock where he graduated from Hall High School in 1970. Howard became an accountant by profession after graduating from University of Texas at San Antonio. Howard is survived by his wife of 15 years, Monica Pickrell Ball of Maumelle. Other survivors include his daughter, Tiffany Bevill, her husband Todd, and grandson, Zac of North Little Rock; and sons, Ross Davis of Grand Junction, Colorado, and Nathan Davis, with wife Heidi, and grandchildren Jonah and Hannah of North Little Rock. In addition, Howard is survived by his mother, Dazel Ball of San Antonio, Texas; brothers Willis H. Ball, Jr. with wife Janel, of Manitou Springs, Colorado, and Wayne Ball of Little Rock, Arkansas, and sister, Lynn Rutland, and her husband Randy, of San Antonio, Texas. In addition, Howard is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Howard was preceded in death by his father, Willis H. Ball, Sr. A memorial service will be held at The Summit Church at 6600 Crystal Hill Road, North Little Rock, on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. Visitation with the family will be from noon until 1:00 p.m. in the commons area at The Summit. Since Howard was an avid cyclist, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Recycle Bikes for Kids (recyclebikesforkids.org), a charity that provides free bicycles to young people. The family extends a sincere thank you to the people who attended to Howard and sought emergency care for him, as well as the many friends and The Summit Church family for their outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.

I am still in shock in hearing of Howard's death. I first met Howard almost 4 years ago when he began working for the Department of Finance and Administration. For the first 3 years we worked as Manager and Supervisor, but for the past year we worked literally side by side as Howard was being trained to take over my position. During this time we became more than co-workers, we became friends. Howard and I enjoyed the same music, laughed at the same jokes, and shared many of the same memories of growing up in the '50s and '60s. Once while approaching each other in a narrow hallway, I commented we had to do the "Teaberry Shuffle" to keep from running into each other. Howard showed me many things this past year, but the things I will remember most were his love of God and love of his family. Howard did not wear his religion on his sleeve, but there was no doubt were stood in his relationship with God. Howard also showed his love for Monica, Tiffany, Zac, his brothers and sister, parents, and all the rest of the family. I have heard the story of little Howard riding the tricycle with the bent wheel. To his family and friends I offer my sincere condolences. Howard will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
