Biography: Harry ?Buddy? McDermott of Little Rock, passed away on June 6, 2015 at home under Baptist Hospice at the age of 91. He is predeceased by his father, Harry E. McDermott, Sr., mother, Elizabeth McDermott, sister, Rosalyn Lawson, and wife, Mary Alice McDermott. He was born in Wilmot, Arkansas and graduated Wilmot High School in 1942. Buddy had one year at Henderson State Teachers College then entered the U.S. Air Corps in 1943 and was discharged Second Lieutenant-pilot in 1945; subsequently self-employed as crop duster for one year in Arkansas and Texas. Buddy later graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville receiving a degree in Business Administration and, also the School of Law in 1950. While attending school he made many life-long friendships, was president of the Kappa Sigma fraternity, and met the love of his life Mary Alice McClellan. Buddy and Mary married in 1950 and raised three children together. He often said that marrying Mary was his greatest accomplishment. In the fall of 1950, he was tax attorney for the Department of Justice in Washington, DC. In 1954, he returned to Little Rock and began the private practice of law until 1984. During his private practice he also served at times as an assistant city attorney for the city of Little Rock, the attorney for the Arkansas Public Service Commission, the Arkansas Commerce Commission, the Federal Home Loan Bank of Little Rock, and the National Fraternity of Pi Beta Phi. He was also general counsel for the Little Rock Port Authority and participated in the original development of the port and the development district. Towards the end of his law career, Buddy was proud to share the same law office with his son Harry McDermott. Later in life he really enjoyed purchasing and developing real estate all over Arkansas and mostly along the Arkansas River. Buddy loved boating on the Arkansas River and flying his airplane. He enjoyed his two riverfront homes in Little Rock and Mayflower. At one time he had a landing strip by both homes and would fly his plane from one home to the other. He enjoyed hosting parties and spending time with family and friends. He was ?so loved? by his wife and children. As his health declined, his adoring daughter Holly stayed right by his side. He had a hardworking and rewarding life as a husband, father, lawyer, and real estate developer. He was strong in his Christian faith, a man with a generous heart, and would give the shirt off his back for anyone. Buddy is survived by his one son, Harry McDermott of Fayetteville, two daughters, Lisa McDermott Reynolds and husband, Roger Reynolds of Little Rock, Holly McDermott of Little Rock, grandson, Chance McDermott of Little Rock, step-granddaughter, Celeste Gladden, and great-step- grandson, Jase Gladden of Bryant. I remember going out on the
Arkansas River with him in a small flatbottom boat in 1973 during a really big flood. We drifted across one end of Sullivans Island that was underwater. He loved the river and good times were had there.
He helped me get into UALR, he was a good man and I will always remember him.
Sorry for your loss,
Respectfully. Graham Sullivan
