Biography: William Ervin ?Bill? Sterling, 97, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2015, in Springfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Nellie Sterling; a sister, Kathleen; and his loving wife of 62 years, Helen. He is survived by two sons, Edward (Kendall) of Richmond, VA., and Timothy (Lisa) of Nixa, MO., a grandson, Scott, of Colorado Springs, CO. He and Helen shared a home in Little Rock, Arkansas, for 50 years before illness made it necessary for them to relocate to Springfield, Missouri, to be near family. Mr. Sterling was a veteran of World War II and served in the US Army Air Corps. After his honorable discharge from military service, he worked as an independent insurance claims adjuster for 35 years. He was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball club and the University of Arkansas Razorbacks sports programs. During the 1970s he coached the men?s slow-pitch softball team at St. Andrew?s Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, where he and Helen were members for many years. He also enjoyed fishing and camping, particularly at Lakes Ouachita and Chicot in Arkansas. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 27, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Nixa, Missouri. I was so sorry to read about the death of Bill Sterling in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. I had tried for several years to find out where he moved to from Little Rock.

I was working in Jonesboro in a Auto body shop when I first met Bill Sterling. He hired me to work as a insurance adjuster and started me on a long successful career. He taught me a lot and was my supervisor for four years until I went to work for Allstate Ins. in Little Rock. We remained friends and stayed in touch.

Bill was one of the finest men I ever worked with and was friends with. I want his boys and family to know how much he was respected.

Leave your Condolence
