Biography: Mary Elizabeth (Cotter) Quattlebaum, 98, passed away on April 3, 2015. Mary was born on July 10, 1916 in Gum Springs, Arkansas and moved to North Little Rock when her father, a telegrapher for Missouri Pacific Railroad, was transferred. She attended Saint Patrick?s parochial school and North Little Rock High School. After graduation she worked as a sales person for Pfeifer?s in downtown Little Rock and later as a comptometer operator with Kroger. After marrying Rudell Quattlebaum, a boiler engineer with Arkansas Power and Light Company, they moved to Forrest City where she was a homemaker until Rudy?s sudden death in 1955. She and her son moved back to Little Rock and, faced with being a single parent, enrolled in an X-ray technology program, and worked as an X-ray technician at the Arkansas State Hospital until her retirement. After retirement she and her sister Agnes enjoyed going to garage sales and antique stores, backyard family picnics, and particularly ceramic classes at the Jack Evans Senior Citizen Center in Sherwood, Arkansas. She is survived by her son, Larry Quattlebaum and her brother, Andrew Cotter both of Little Rock, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Anna Cotter, her husband Rudell Quattlebaum, sister Agnes Keltner, brothers Thomas Cotter and Bernard Cotter, and sisters-in-law Vera Bonds, Lyda King, and Eudell Denson. Mary was a devout Catholic and went to sleep every night saying the rosary. She was a former parishioner of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church and currently of Saint Theresa Catholic Church. Special thanks to Mr. R.J. Stanley and Mr. Eric Stanley who brought her communion every Sunday. A visitation will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2015 from 5 to 6 p.m. followed by a Rosary, at Ruebel Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be on the morning of Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Saint Theresa Catholic Church followed by burial at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorials can be made to Saint Theresa Catholic Church, 6219 Baseline Rd, Little Rock, AR 72209. Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com

Larry,
Although I didn't have the privilege of meeting your Mom, I feel like I knew her from all the wonderful things Carol told me over the years and this beautiful obituary. I know her greatest blessing was having you for a son. Your constant dedication and love had to enrich each of her days and bring her so much pride and joy. Please know that I will continue to keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers over the coming days.

Larry,
I enjoyed our phone call so much even though the occasion was sad. No one can ever appreciate what your mom meant to me. As a young child even before you were born, Aunt Mary was like second mother to me and I loved her in the same way that I loved my own mom, we will all miss her.

This is who I referred to as Aunt Mary. She always welcome me with a smile. Every spring I think about her because she made the best strawberry cake I have ever eaten. Last Sunday I asked my mom to make Aunt Mary's Strawberry Cake. She did and when we ate it we thought of Aunt Mary and how she was enjoying a piece herself.

Larry, thank you so much for forwarding this link to my mom (Mary Jane Keltner Wyeth). I was sad to hear of my Great-Aunt's passing; especially so soon after my grandmother Nanny had passed. I enjoyed all of the facts about Mary's life that you shared and smiled when I saw the resemblance to Nanny in her photo.
I have been collecting family stories and piecing together a family tree. I'll make sure that what you wrote is included. I hope you find peace in knowing that the sisters are together again. All the best, Katie
