Biography: Charlie Jetton died peacefully Wednesday, February 18, 2015 a month before his 96th birthday. He blessed the world with the twinkle in his eye and his contagious smile. He adored the women in his life; Elizabeth, his bride of 68 years who preceded him in death in 2008, and his three daughters. His daughters were blessed with a father who demonstrated love, respect, kindness and humor. Charlie was a graduate of Central High School in Memphis, TN and Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII, played semi-pro baseball, was President and Treasurer of DeSoto Hardware Company, co-founded Dowdle-Jetton Sporting Goods Company with his brother in law Bill Dowdle. He served as Director of Business Services at Memphis State University, now University of Memphis. Charlie was one of the founding members of The Church of the Holy Communion in Memphis and served on its Vestry. He was a member of the Exchange Club and the Rotary Club. He loved to play golf, fish at Bear Creek, play racquetball and putter in his garden. He loved classical music and had a wide collection of records, tapes and cds. He coached youth baseball for many years, then volunteered at Memphis Botanical Gardens and delivered Meals on Wheels after his retirement. He was truly a Renaissance man. He leaves three daughters, Diane Jetton Hobson and her husband Jim of Little Rock, Mary Frances Jetton and her husband Peter Pennington of Alexandria, VA and Elizabeth Jetton and her husband Michael Smith of Atlanta, GA. Among his grandchildren are Carey Kelly, Shannon Hobson, Chaz Teplin, Ellie Teplin and Ryan Smith. His great-grandchildren are Ryan, Lauren, Ethan, Elijah, Martin and Helyn. A memorial service will be held in Memphis at a later date. Memorials may be made to Saint Margaret's Episcopal Church and the Arkansas House of Prayer both in Little Rock, the Metropolitan Interfaith Association and the Church Health Center both in Memphis. The family would like to thank the caregivers, nurses, and staff at Parkway Health Center for caring for him so lovingly for the last three years.

Canon and I were saddened to hear of Mr. Jetton's death. We send our thoughts and sympathies to all his family, and especially to Mary Frances, Diane and Betty. Please know that you are in our thoughts as you work through those things we all deal with with upon the death of those we love. Unfortunately, we have a commitment that requires us to travel to Atlanta during the service and reception that cannot be re-skeduled or else we would certainly do so. Canon and I discussed the obituary that was in the paper today in Memphis, and both of us said something to the effect that we never knew Mr. Jetton to do anything but smile and laugh and be friendly--though occasionally he did "squint at me a bit" as I led his daughter off for an evening. :) We have missed not having him at 47 South Fernway, but we assumed the case--that he had moved to Little Rock to be with Diane. Bless you all. Jamie and Canon

What a perfect tribute to Charlie. Your love for him shines as his for each of his "girls," grands and greats.

Bill, Wayne and I are blessed to have grown up together one house apart- those years are filled with Memories of Charlie's humor, gentle "tricks" he loved to play on us and oh what a smile! Elizabeth and Charlie have always been so special to Robert and me throughout the years- especially when Robert was a boy.

Love and prayers,

Carey
