Biography: Carrie Mae Light Parlin age 100 of Little Rock, Arkansas passed away Sunday, January 11, 2015. She was born in Salem, Arkansas on June 16, 1914 to John and Mary Ellen Light. Carrie Mae graduated from High School in Batesville, Arkansas. After graduation, she entered the Baptist State Hospital School of Nursing in Little Rock and became a registered nurse in 1938. The last 23 years of her work was with the Visiting Nurse Association home nursing. She and Edward W. Parlin were married in Second Baptist Church in Little Rock in 1938. They became the parents of one son Edward W. Parlin, Jr. Carrie Mae and her husband loved gardening and developed a lovely spot in their back yard where many beautiful vegetables were grown. They were together 63 years before his death in 2001. Carrie Mae was a long time member of Pulaski Heights Baptist Church where she served in many capacities. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, one granddaughter Elizabeth Parlin, four brothers, Eulen, Nathan, J.R., and Jim Light and four sisters, Ida, Dorothy, Dora and Pauline. Survivors include two grandchildren, Edward Parlin, III and Emily Parlin both of Washington State. Graveside services will be at 11:30am on Friday, January 16, 2015 at Roselawn Memorial Park with Dr. Randy L. Hyde officiating.
