After a valiant eleven month battle with cancer, Richard passed away and joined his King and Savior January 1, 2007. He begins a new year with a new life. Richard has been an inspiration to his family and friends. He fought his disease with courage, a sense of humor, and with the love and prayers of family and many friends of many different religious denominations. Richard is survived by his parents, Dick and Jane Jarboe; his brothers, Aaron Jarboe and Andy Jarboe; a sister and her husband, Kimberly and Jason Hammock; three neices, Katelyn, Kaylie, and Hannah Hammock; his maternal grandmother, Ruby Nahlen; his maternal Aunt Kathy Fooks and Aunt Nancy Nahlen; his maternal Uncle, Dr. Bernard Nahlen; his paternal Aunt Sarah and Uncle John Brownlee; his "special" paternal Aunt Linda and Uncle Richard Vogan; his "special" neighbor and adopted grandmother Anna Laura Long; his pet Nikki, and many cousins and other relatives who loved and cherished their time with him. Richard's "special" Aunt Linda and Uncle Richard allowed him to move in with them, helped take care of him, spent quality hours with him and took care of his as their own. His "special cousin" Hannah and husband Andrew D'Arezzo declined her last assignment as a traveling registered nurse in order to remain in Little Rock and assist with his care. Richard is predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Robert and Helen Jarboe of Lake Village, maternal grandfather Herman Nahlen of North Little Rock, his maternal uncles, Ronnie and Martin Nahlen, and his paternal aunt, Shirley Davidson. Richard graduated from Hendrix College in 2004 with a degree in history and spent his junior year studying at Oxford University in England. He was the recipient of a Chairman's Scholarship, Leadership Scholarship, and Theatre Scholarship to Hendrix College. Richard was inducted into the Omega Psi Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society while attending Hendrix. He was employed as a paralegal with his father, Attorney Dick Jarboe of Walnut Ridge and Attorney James Allison of Memphis, Tennessee at the time of his illness. His career goal was to become a lawyer. Richard was a valedictorian of the class of 2000 of Walnut Ridge High School. He was a member of the National Honor Society, the WRHS State Champion Quiz Bowl Team where he enjoyed many hours of competition, comaraderie, and humor with his friends and his coach, Mrs. Joyce Rose. He also participated in Quiz Bowl competitions as a moderator after his graduation from high school. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. William Young of Jonesboro, Dr. James Suen of Little Rock who is the Director of the Arkansas Cancer Research Center at UAMS, Dr. Richard Rowe, Drs. Anne-Marie Maddox and Reed Thompson of ACRC, and Dr. Jose Penagaricano of CARTI and numerous nurses, radiological technicians, and medical assistants. Richard's service will be held at St. Anne's Catholic Church in North Little Rock on Thursday, January 4, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Richard Everett Jarboe Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care of First National Bank, 206 West Main, Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. www.ruebelfuneralhome.com

Dear Dick and Jane,

Our hearts were greatly saddened when we read of Richard's passing. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers. We often questions why, but we know that God, in his infinite wisdom, has knowledge of things we can not foresee. All things work for good for those who love the Lord. We will receive our comfort through Him.

Throughout this whole ordeal, every time I received an email on Richard’s condition, all I could think about were the memories I had of Richard. The time Jane took Richard, Corbet, Kelly, Aaron, Brandon, and me to the lake for a week. I remember playing pranks on Aaron and Brandon, and Richard quoting Monty Python. I remember Richard’s innovative graduation speech I remember the times visiting Richard and Steven at Hendrix. Richard always making fun of uptight UCA students and wanting to show me the “freak” dorm to see if he could rattle me. Dick, Jane, and Aaron our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Dick, Jane, Aaron, Andy, Kim and family words cannot explain our feelings for you at this time. Richard has always been a very special young man to us. We as well as our community has lost a very talented and intellectual young man & he will be soarly missed. He and I had always joked and kidded about him being our President one day (he kidded & I thought could be possible) but, now he is in a higher office and you can always be very proud of his accomplishments. We are so saddened by the battle he had to fight & the pain & suffering each of you had to face with him to get there. Our love, prayers & sympathy are with you at this time and always.

Mr. and Mrs. Jarboe and family, I did not know Richard well, but had the pleasure of meeting him on several occasions, the most memorable and joyful of which was at his graduation from Hendrix, on the day that my brother Daniel also graduated. I will always remember Richard on that day, with his huge smile and the light in his eyes. Please know that Richard and his story have touched me so deeply. He will remain a true inspiration for me, as I know he will be for you always. My prayers will continue to be with you all. 'Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.' 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Remember, he is not suffering anymore and wouldn't want you to suffer either. Take care and God bless you.

To the Jarboes: It saddens me to hear of Richard's passing. Richard was a dear friend to me. Richard had a presence that was larger than life. He exhibited this with everything he did, whether it be studies, his friends, or his extracurricular activities. I have known Richard for a long time, as well as knowing your family for a long time. You guys are like my second family. He only wanted to help people and did so in his own unique way. Knowing this, I know that he is in a better place. I am sorry that I will not be able to attend the funeral, as my work has kept me detained in Indiana. I tried to get around it, but there was nothing that I could do. Just know that I am thinking about you guys. If there is anything that I can do to help you guys down the road, do not hesitate to contact me. I love you guys.

You and your family are held close in our thoughts and prayers.

My Dear, Dear Friends, My heart is beating so and my eyes fill with tears as I reach out to you all. Yesterday, January 1 was our son, JonDavid's 17th birthday. We sent off 17 balloons, as we do each year for each birthday. As they climbed high into the heavens my thoughts and pain was increasingly greater knowing that you too have to fill this gut wrenching pain, as bereaved parents and siblings. I Love You and will be there to help hold you. Feel the love that surrounds you.

Ours prayers are with all of you. He fought a courageous battle, as did all of you. Richard seem to lift others up, instead of the other way around. So, so very sorry. Wish we knew the words to say to help that hole in your heart but we don't. Just know we care.

Dick, Jane and family, Our hearts are with you right now, but we know that the angels in heaven are dancing because of Richard. No more pain, no more sorrow only happiness. Someday we will all be with him. My prayer for you is comfort in knowing he is in a much better place. Home. If there is anything I can do, please call. If you just need someone to talk to or hold you while you cry, I will be there. My prayers are with you.
