Biography: Margery Hare Barker Downs of Little Rock was born April 29, 1925 in Sherman, Texas to the late Frank and Margie Hare. She graduated from the University of Texas where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi fraternity. In 1948 Margery married Dr. James Barker and moved to Little Rock. They were married for 15 years until his death. In 1967, Margery married Dr. Ralph Downs. They shared 39 years of marriage until his death in 2006. She served many years as an active member of the Junior League of Little Rock and the Little Rock Garden Club. Margery has been a devoted member of St. Mark?s Episcopal Church for over 50 years where she served on the alter guild. She is survived by her daughters, Cindy Barker Wage (Olin), Susan Barker Penick (Carroll) and three stepsons; grandchildren, Aaron Wage Nixon (Marc), Robert Olin Wage Jr., Frances Penick Mitchell (David) and Sarah Penick Gibson (Ryan); step grandchildren, Charlotte Downs, Martine Downs Pollard (David), Ralph Downs IV and four great-grandchildren. Margery is also survived by her beloved sister, Frances Hare Fallon (Joe), three nephews, their wives and children. She is preceded in death by a stepson, James Andrew Downs. Her funeral will be Monday, December 15th at 2:00 pm at St. Mark?s Episcopal Church followed by internment in the columbarium. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St Mark?s Episcopal Church, 1000 N. Mississippi, Little Rock, 72207.
