Biography: Ed Davis Ligon, Jr. was born August 25, 1933 in Osage County, Oklahoma, near Tulsa. He was the son of Ed Davis Ligon and Nadine Colcord Ligon and had 2 younger sisters, Nadine and Gretchen. He attended Tulsa public schools and then graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1956 with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering. While in college he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, President of the Engineer?s Club and a member of LKOT. After graduation he joined Orbit Valve Company in Tulsa, OK. On October 5, 1962, Ed and Judith Ann Wright were married in Tulsa, OK, then moved to Little Rock in 1964 where they had 3 children, daughters, Lisa and Shannon and a son, Chris. When Orbit moved its operations to Little Rock in 1964 he was elected President, a position he held until his retirement. During that time, Orbit moved from being a small manufacturer of valves for the oil and gas industry in the U.S. to a manufacturer of specialty valves for the world-wide oil and gas industry, with over half of its sales being sold outside the U.S. He was active in business organizations, having served on the boards of the National Association of Manufacturers; the Associated Industries of Arkansas, of which he was also President; the Worthen Bank and Trust Co; the Little Rock Chamber of Commerce; 50 for the Future; one of the founders of the Arkansas Chapter of the Young Presidents Organization and served on the International Board of YPO. He was a lifetime member of the World Presidents Organization. Since retirement from Orbit Valve Company in 1988, he has been President of the Kingdom Fund, a non-profit corporation that has supported numerous faith based organizations in the Little Rock area. They have strongly supported the Arkansas Rice Depot, especially the Food For Kids program and the World Gospel Outreach, which provides homes and education for street children in Honduras. The primary purpose of the Kingdom Fund is supporting the development of young Christian leaders, so Ed and Judy provided the initial funding for Fellowship Associates, a leadership training, church consulting, and church planting organization whose purpose is to train leaders to lead churches of influence and to develop ministry resources that will strengthen churches. The Kingdom Fund continues to support the Residency Program of this organization. Ed and Judy have been active members and supporters of Fellowship Bible Church in Little Rock since 1978. Their real joy has been the Residency Program that equips young pastors with the leadership and management skills they need to plant churches that will attract people to Christ and equip and inspire them to do good in their communities. To date, over 80 churches have been planted by graduates of this program. Ed is survived by his wife, Judy Ligon; his daughter, Lisa and her partner, Vicki; his daughter, Shannon and her boys, Ryan and Michael; his son, Chris and his wife, Jenny and their children, Tanner, Spencer, Ashley and Sabrina; and his sister, Nadine and her family. A special thanks to the care givers at Elder Independence for the wonderful care they provided for Ed. A memorial service will be held at Fellowship Bible Church on Monday, November 3, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. Memorials may be made in Ed?s name to Arkansas Rice Depot, 3801 W 65th St., Little Rock, AR 72209 or Arkansas Sheriff?s Youth Ranches, 100 St. Vincent Place, Batesville, AR 72501. Arrangements by Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com.

It was certainly shocking news to learn of Ed's passing. He and I were fellow Engineering students at the University of Oklahoma in the 1950's. Since graduation in 1956, I have worked in the oil and gas industry and bought many Orbit valves for my projects. The last time I saw Ed was in the 1970's at an industrial conference where we shared a nice lunch together. He was definitely an industry giant. All sincere condolences to his wife, Judy, and the family.

I moved to Little Rock as a young married man in 1978. I started looking for work and was lucky enough to get a job with Orbit Valve. I remember HR telling me I would be starting at the burr bench on 2nd shift which didn't sound too bad. Boy was I wrong I wanted to quit after the first day but I tough it out which turn out to be the best dicision I ever made. I became an inspector at Orbit. I remembered Big John Powers, Joe Sparkman, Lighting etc. so many great people at orbit. It truly was a family. I've worked at other industries since, automotive, electronics, aviation. But none of them were like Orbit. Because of Orbit Valve and the investment Mr Ligon made in educating and traing all of us 'workers' on how to do our jobs I was able to buy a home and provide for my family. Every job I've held since was due in some way to the knowledge I gain at Orbit. Maybe that is one measure of his legacy. Mr Ligon was a good man. He treated all with respect and always had a kind word for all. This world is not what it was in 1978 and we could used more men like him. My deepest condolences to the family.

Dear Judy,

It was a privilege for Agnieszka and me to be part of the Residency program at Fellowship Associates (2004-2005) and we are thankful for all that you and Ed did to make it possible for my wife and I to be trained and encouraged in ministry. We know this is a difficult time for you and your family, especially right before the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. We are praying that you will experience God's love and grace in a special way.

With love from Poland,

Dear Ligon Family,
When I arrived in Arkansas I had the great fortune to obtain a position with Orbit Valve Company. Ed Ligon Sr was just retiring and Ed Ligon Jr was taking over. This legacy and accomplishment of theirs included a dedication to the product, their people and their community which set a high standard for others to try and reach. I learned much more about life coming here at a young age than I could have anywhere else. I feel very blessed to be a part of his Orbit Family. He was an inspiration and a mentor as President/Owner and as a Man that knew what life was really about and how to survive and thrive in a business that is at best cyclic.
I thank him from the bottom of my heart for the work life he gave me and for the life lessons I have learned.
I pray for his family, for I have a real glimpse of the loss I know they feel. I pray the memories of their beloved Ed brings them peace and comfort until the time when they will all gather together again.

We will miss looking across the creek and seeing Ed driving his tractor out in the country. He was an encouragement to us as he continued to do those things even as he was getting older.

I was with Orbit Valve during 1962-1968 and 1975-1990. Ed was the best boss I ever had. Orbit Valve was the best company I ever experienced, and it was due to Ed?s personality and efforts. I wish the best for Judy, their children, and grandchildren.

Ed and Judy led our Bible study/Community Group at Fellowship Bible Church during the mid 1990?s. At the time, we were a young married couple, and we will always remember the time they invested in us ? providing wonderful Christian mentorship. Ed was always honest, kind, and truly passionate about spreading the love of Christ and demonstrating His love through his own life and marriage. We are so grateful for the time Ed and Judy invested in our lives. Ed will be truly missed.

It was a joy working for Mr. Ligon at Orbit Valve. I had the utmost respect for him. Although he was a busy man, it was obvious that he cared deeply about each of us as his employees. He made us feel like family. He will truly be missed. You are in my prayers.

Ed's faithfulness to serve our Messiah with his time and talents spurs on all who met him...and even many who did not. Ed, who understood this earth is not his home, is now home. Thanks Ed for your generosity, your faithfulness, and your love. May you bask in the Glory of our King.

Chris and all of the Ligon family. It is with great sadness that I heard of the passing of your wonderful Father and Husband Ed. He is and was one of the most kind and gentle men I have known and I have always thought so highly of him. You guys were really a surrogate family to me and all of the time that Chris and I spent together through high school is dear to me, and your Dad was a big part of that. God has gained an angel and we are blessed to have him there supporting all of us through our journey here on Earth. I will reach out soon,
Much love from myself and my family to you all through these difficult times.

My condolences for Ed's family. I enjoyed working with Ed the last few years with his Mac and Apple products. He was always wanting to learn about the newest and latest things; the sign of an ever young and inquisitive mind. Ed was a very dear, sweet man who I will miss greatly.

I am deeply saddened to hear the news of Ed's passing. I?ll always remember him warmly, and feel lucky that I had the pleasure of knowing and working for him. My 26 years working at the Orbit Valve Company were the best of my Sales career. From the top down, Ed created a company that was positive, caring, friendly, and run with integrity. Ed truly cared for his employees and for his customers. It was a joy coming to work each day and knowing that Ed was at the helm! RIP

When I came to work for Orbit Valve in 1981, first time I met Mr. Ligon he seemed as genuine as the day he left the company. I always felt working for a family owned company was a gift in my life. He was and and will always be a GREAT man in my books. My prayers and thoughts go out to all the family during this most difficult time. God Bless you Mr. Ligon.

Mr. Ligon was the most loyal man i've ever met. james and i both came to work for Orbit Valve in 1988, getting to know the Ligons was very easy back in those days, something that is quite unheard of today for big manufacturers like Cameron is today. Ed always made you feel at home like you were his favorite employee whether you were sweeping floors or driving a forklift, he didn't care he loved us all and in turn we loved him and his family back. we have missed him and his family since the years of Orbit after Cameron took over, that family we once felt is gone, but his memory lives on in the Ligon conference room here today. bye Mister Ligon we will miss you even more now.
