Biography: Martha Brunson Smith, 97, died August 21, 2014. She was the youngest child of Annie Lou Griffith and Willis Peter Brunson of Blevins, Arkansas. Until 2010, Martha lived independently in her own home in Hope, Arkansas. At that time, she moved to Briarwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Little Rock and for the last two months she has been at Arkansas Hospice on Bowman Road. She was graduated from Prescott High School and attended Southern State University in Magnolia, Arkansas. Martha married the late James Walter Smith and lived in Okay, Arkansas until her stepdaughter who was also her niece, Tish, began high school in Hope, Arkansas. Martha drove her own car until she was past 90 and when she did most people in Hope made way. She lived alone in her own house and loved to spend time at the offices of Albert Graves, Attorney. Albert and his secretary Emilie Prescott were her friends and Albert was her true mentor and investment advisor. She enjoyed gardening, bridge, golf, books, politics (Democrat), the Episcopal Church and following the Razorbacks. A highlight of her life was in 1973 when she was appointed to a vacant seat on the Hempstead County Quorum Court. She is predeceased by her husband James Walter Smith, her sister Nina Brunson Smith, brothers, John Brunson (Ruth) and Fred Brunson (Pearl). She is survived by her step-daughter Katherine (Tish) and husband William Henslee, grandson David Kelly Jones and wife Sharon, great-grandsons, James Alton Jones and Christopher Andrew Jones, great-nephews, Ned Smith, Wally Smith and great niece, Judie Smith Boerger.
