Biography: Esther O’Brient Hozendorf, 97, died Sunday, December 17th, 2006. She was born in Durham, North Carolina, the daughter of the late Wayne V. Reid and David Z. O’Brient. She was educated in the city schools of Durham and attended Duke University and Greensboro College in Greensboro, North Carolina, where she earned a Bachelor of Music with a major in piano. Her husband, Dr. C. Ray Hozendorf and her daughter-in-law, Linda Hozendorf, preceded her in death. A son, George R. Hozendorf of Hot Springs, Arkansas, and a sister, Marjorie Millis of Fayetteville, North Carolina, survive her. She is also survived by four grand daughters, Nicole Walker, Gae Connally, Rae Curren, Valarie Adams, a grandson, Mark Kelley and 7 great-grandchildren. She was a devoted member of the Methodist Church. She held offices in the U.M.W. on the local district and conference levels. As the wife of a Methodist Minister, she carried on the work of the Methodist Church along side her husband in Little Rock, Mena, Prescott, Hot Springs, Magnolia, El Dorado, Camden, Arkansas, and Nashville, Arkansas. Other activities include membership in the Second Friday Club, Bookfellows Supper Club, Little Rock Musical Coterie, Arkansas Pen Women, and she was a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow. While in Arkadelphia, she took graduate courses in creative writing and published a book of poetry, Dawn’s Glory. She has also written a novel, which has not been published. The family will receive visitors from 4 to 6pm on Wednesday, December 20th, 2006 at Ruebel Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, Little Rock, at 2pm Thursday, December 21, 2006, officiated by Reverend Clint Burleson and Dr. Michael Mattox. The family requests that memorials, in lieu of flowers, be made to The Arkansas Hospice Foundation or First United Methodist Church, Little Rock, Arkansas.
