Biography: The sweet spirit of Susan Jeanne Campbell left this earth on July 29, 2014. Throughout her life, Susan lived an example of love and humility that will never be forgotten by those who knew her. Born March 6, 1950 in Little Rock, she grew up on North Pierce in the Hillcrest community and attended both of her local Pulaski Heights schools before taking on Metropolitan High School in Little Rock. Here, she served as editor-in-chief of the yearbook and a member of the school?s first-ever National Honor Society. She also took advantage of years of dance lessons lovingly forced upon her by her mother, Dorothy, to show her ?Wolf Spirit? as captain of the cheerleading team. In one of her favorite High School memories, she was selected as a beauty finalist by none other than The Monkees, Peter, Micky, Davy and Michael. Following graduation, Susan was excited to continue her cheerleading career at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. On her way to tryouts, she was involved in a car wreck and taken to a local hospital. Instead of missing her opportunity, she snuck out of the hospital, bandages and all, and made it in time to tryout, earning a position as an alternate and ultimately a position on the squad! This zest for life continued when she became a mother to Allison and Matt. She loved them dearly and equally, although Matt was rumored to be her favorite (the baby of the family) and never got in trouble. Their home was often filled with friends who remember Susan as a mother who personified goodness and love. Susan would rent a monster-sized video camera from Family Video and videotape all of their games and pep rallies, never missing one. She was also often the chauffer, entertainer, cook, and counselor for her children and all their friends. Susan was an animal lover, never being without a rescue pet. Throughout her life, Susan?s house was always a mix of cats, dog, birds, (even Matt?s turtles) and a haven for any animal that needed help. Her love for Arkansas meant she was both a devoted Razorback fan and an avid Bill Clinton supporter. Her pride for all things Arkansas has been passed down to her children, who once stood with her in line for 8 hours to meet the former President and grew up having a picture of Joe Klein on their refrigerator. She was also known for her love of books and movies. One of her favorite jobs was working at Family Video in Hillcrest, where she could watch movies all day. This job made her an unbeatable opponent on any sort of Hollywood trivia. Most recently, Susan has enjoyed working with her Wal-Mart family in Bryant and was excited to be ahead of the curve on cell phone technology, assisting and educating customers who came to see her regularly. She was a devoted ?Sue Sue? to her five grandchildren, always available with a big hug and a smile. Susan is survived by her husband David Campbell of Benton; daughter and son-in-law, Allison and Jamie Hoffman of Little Rock; son and daughter-in-law, Matt and Christina Elrod of Benton; grandchildren James, Harper, Heidi, Hailey and Zach; cousin Larry Sullivan of Little Rock; as well as many close friends and loved ones. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Dorothy Taylor and her dear cousin and friend, Deborah Shipley. The family will celebrate Susan?s life in a private memorial service.
